‘VisionQuest’ Trailer: Paladin Hunts Vision as Ultron Returns

VisionQuest - Disney + - Marvel Television’s VisionQuest | Official Trailer -

Five years after WandaVision left White Vision flying off in search of his identity, Marvel is finally bringing the synthezoid back — and the latest VisionQuest trailer reveals he has a dangerous new enemy on his trail.

The new footage introduces Paladin, one of Marvel Comics’ most mysterious mercenaries, to the MCU. Todd Stashwick plays the masked gunman, who sets his sights on White Vision (Paul Bettany) after a bounty is placed on his head.

But Paladin isn’t the only threat Vision will face. James Spader is also returning as Ultron for the first time since 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, with the villain existing as one of the AI personalities embedded inside Vision’s programming.

VisionQuest premieres Wednesday, October 14, on Disney+ and serves as the final chapter in the trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along.

Here is everything we know about VisionQuest so far.

What is VisionQuest about?

Created by showrunner Terry Matalas, VisionQuest follows Paul Bettany’s White Vision on an existential quest to reclaim his lost memories and humanity after the events of WandaVision, while on the run with a mysterious teenager linked to his past. James Spader returns to the MCU as Ultron, but rather than just voicing a robotic body, he appears in the flesh as a bearded, bespectacled human avatar within Vision’s mind-space.

Vision’s programming still contains several AI personalities, including Ultron, with James Spader returning to the role for the first time in live action since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Vision eventually goes on the run alongside Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious boy who may be the reincarnation of his son.

And with a bounty on Vision’s head, Paladin has plenty of reason to join the chase. Paladin debuted in 1978’s Daredevil #150 and was created by Jim Shooter and Carmine Infantino. Very little has ever been revealed about his identity or origins; he operates primarily as a mercenary rather than a traditional supervillain, so his allegiance usually depends on who is paying him.

The show acts as the third and final chapter of the story arc that began with WandaVision and continued through Agatha All Along.

The title is borrowed from a 1989 Marvel comic by writer and artist John Byrne where Vision is kidnapped by government agents, entirely dismantled and rebuilt into a new colorless body that lacks all the memories and emotions of the original Vision.

Who will star in VisionQuest?

Paul Bettany will return as Vision, the beloved android and Avenger. James Spader will also appear in the series as Ultron, reprising his role from 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The cast also includes Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Todd Stashwick, James D’Arcy, Orla Brady, Emily Hampshire, and Ruaridh Mollica.

Mollica was confirmed to be playing an older version of Tommy Maximoff in the Bettany-led series at New York Comic Con on October 11. Mollica will take over the role from Jett Klyne, who portrayed the character, one of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision’s (Bettany) twin sons, in WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Who is behind VisionQuest?

VisionQuest is led by showrunner and executive producer Terry Matalas, alongside executive producers Kevin Feige and Jac Schaeffer. The project is produced under the Marvel Studios banner.

Is there a trailer?

Indeed. Marvel released the first official VisionQuest trailer at D23. In the footage, White Vision (Bettany) is trying to understand who he is, explaining that although he has the original Vision’s face and memories, he doesn’t necessarily have his identity or humanity.

The new trailer (above) features more of Vision’s fight for the truth, his relationship with Thomas ,and those who are trying to capture him.
