Mick Jagger Says Fans Don’t Want ‘Lectures’ After Bruce Springsteen’s Anti-Trump Messages

Mick Jagger recently said that fans aren’t interested in political lectures when asked about Bruce Springsteen‘s anti-Donald Trump messages at concerts.
During an interview on The New York Times‘ podcast The Interview, the Rolling Stones frontman spoke with host David Marchese on a wide variety of topics.
Jagger, 82, was asked at one point about his relationship with crowds during a concert. Marchese mentioned Bob Dylan on one side of the spectrum before pointing to Springsteen as an example of someone who “clearly sees his job as engaging in a meaningful back-and-forth with his audience.”
To that, the “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” singer said, “The bottom line of my thing really is that my job in the live music world is, those people that come, is to have the best time they possibly can.”
Jagger explained, “For two hours or whatever it is, to forget all their problems and the problems of the world and their mortgages and whatever, just to give them the best time they can have.”
Additionally, Jagger pointed out, “You don’t want to lecture them.”
Springsteen, meanwhile, slammed President Trump, 80, during a concert in Minneapolis in April, declaring, “This White House is destroying the American idea and our reputation around the world,” per Time.
The “Born in the U.S.A.” singer, 76, continued, “We are no longer the land of the free and the home of the brave. We are now, to many, America the reckless, unpredictable, predatory rogue nation. That is this administration’s and this president’s legacy. This is happening now. To many, we are no longer looked upon as an often imperfect but strong defender of democracy standing for the global good.”
In May, Springsteen called the POTUS “racist” and accused him of being “treasonous.” He also released a song titled “Streets of Minneapolis” in January, calling out ICE agents as “federal thugs” to “King Trump” following the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

Considering “The Boss” still sells out shows despite him exercising his 1st Amendment rights, I think he’s doing alright. Besides, if we lose the right to criticize all elected officials and hold them all accountable, we lose the plot, and a lot more.

While I understand and somewhat agree with Jagger's stance, I also defend The Boss taking his stand on the issue as I'd also defend the current president's as well as the late Rush Limbaugh's even though I usually didn't agree with those two as well as a certain commenter who occasionally replies with rebuttals to many of my views (I don't think he deserves to have his previous comments deleted by the editors of this site as they're not offensive, just a little opposite of what many of the other ones commenting here write about...)

Well said Antonio ! As Americans we do have freedom of speech. But I think the beef is many people come to hear the music, not the political speeches. And that applies to musicians speaking for the right. There is an exception whether left or right, and that is in my view if the concert was being promoted as being political up front. Then people Know that when they go to that concert they will hear political views from the musician. But other than that as has already been commented on here, many people maybe even most are going to hear the music not a political lecture. So for me Jagger got it right.

Does The Boss condemn the death of a little six year old girl that died at the hands of an Illegal Immigrant ? Just one of many, many Americans by people who aren’t even supposed to be here. Or another little girl who raped repeatedly from age 10 to 12 by and Illegal Immigrant ? As said those are just a couple from numerous Americans that have died and suffered at the hands of people that are not even supposed to be in our country. Any passion from him on that ? My Hope is that there are still some moderate Democrats that are starting to See what’s happening and will set aside our much smaller differences and stand with us to stop the Communist onslaught ! As a Cold War veteran I’ll do my part to the best of my ability. Many of our military Died unrecognized by the public because it was a so called Cold War.
