Lexi Minetree and ‘Elle’ Cast Go Inside ‘The Breakfast Club’-Inspired Episode (VIDEO)

We bet John Hughes would be proud. In Episode 6 of Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel series Elle, the Rainier West High gang — Elle (Lexi Minetree), Dustin (Zac Looker), Liz (Gabrielle Policano), and Miles (Jacob Moskovitz) — gets thrown into Saturday detention with Principal Shane Anderson (Matt Oberg) in an homage to The Breakfast Club. They’re literally inspired by the movie poster for the 1985 flick hanging up in Blockbuster while discussing their plans to look into Anderson’s curious spending — or not-spending — habits.

Dustin had been looking into Anderson’s potential embezzling for awhile now, as everything from stop signs and mousepads to tater tots appear on the approved budgets but can’t be found anywhere in the school. So, they plan to steal the master key to his office and check out the receipts themselves. But they might be forgetting that when you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

The first snag in their plan? They’re not alone. Mean girl Kimberly (Chandler Kinney) joins detention for too many tardies, and immediately wants in on the plan. TV Insider chatted with Minetree, Kinney, and Policano about shooting the episode, particularly the ending as the sprinklers are set off and the whole group is drenched.

“What people don’t realize is that was two weeks of just the five of us in the library, no background, no other characters, just us, with the entire crew in there,” says Policano. “We were like, feral, because we never get to do two straight weeks of filming with just each other.”

Policano, who has the circulatory disorder Raynaud’s, also admits she had ice packs strapped to her back because of the initial heat and later needed a hot shower to deal with the cold later on in the episode. “But it was one of the most fun times I’ve ever had on set,” she admits.

“It was so fun,” adds Minetree. “One of the things that was very humbling was when we go outside after [the sprinklers scene]. We had to go up and they got a hose and sprayed us down… We’re just shivering as we’re doing the scene all day.”

Check out our video above for even more, including Minetree talking about on working with original Elle Reese Witherspoon and June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott on bringing Elle’s parents to life.
