What To Know

  • Kaitlan Collins challenged Scott Jennings’ claim that gas prices are a “non-story,” pointing out that even Trump recently criticized oil companies.
  • Gas prices spiked earlier in the year due to the U.S. conflict with Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Although national gas prices have since dropped, they remain higher than the average before the conflict began.

Kaitlan Collins fact-checked conservative commentator Scott Jennings on air on Thursday evening (June 25) while discussing whether gas prices across the country are a “non-story” or not.

On Thursday’s episode of The Source, Jennings claimed that thanks to President Donald Trump and his administration, the economy is booming. “Gas prices are not up, they’re down below $4 a gallon nationally,” he said. “Oil’s trading at $71 a barrel. We don’t run the gas price tracker on the screen anymore for a reason, you know? It’s because it’s a non-story.”

After he finished reeling off other so-called accomplishments of the Republican party, Collins took him to task on what he said about gas prices being a “non-story.”

“The president doesn’t think they’re a non-story, because he was sounding like President Biden yesterday, saying that these companies are gouging people,” Collins fired back. “He wants to look into it, because he doesn’t think prices are coming down fast enough. So he’s been talking about that.”

Collins was referring to a post Trump made on Truth Social on Wednesday (June 25), where he wrote, “The big Oil Companies are not dropping their price at the pump commensurate with the sharply lower prices they are paying for oil.”

“Those prices are dropping like a rock!” he continued. “In other words, customers are being ‘gouged’. I have instructed the DOJ to immediately start looking into this. Gasoline prices better start going down a lot faster than what I’m seeing.”

Gas prices increased rapidly earlier this year after the U.S. went to war with Iran, leading to the shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz. One of the busiest oil shipping channels, about 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) passes through the strait.

The closure of the strait sent gas prices soaring, rising to a peak of $4.56 per gallon over Memorial Day weekend. However, Jennings was correct when he said the prices have come down, with the national average standing at $3.92 as of Friday morning (June 26), per The Daily Beast.

Despite the decreases, though, the prices are still above the average of $2.96 shortly before Trump launched his attack on Iran.

But Trumpty Dumbty caused the gas prices to go up in the first place. He's like the nurse who injects a patient with something to cause them to go & then they rush in to save him & be the hero.

When you allow almost 50 million, mostly young military aged men in a country with hardly any vetting and create an open border, what do you THINK happens to prices on everything, since PEOPLE will then outnumber PRODUCTS...and yet, keep voting for every single Democrat that caused, created, aided and abetted this happening along with mainstream media and the "useful idiots" that the Red Green Alliance, through education primarily, create.
