‘Today,’ ‘GMA,’ & ‘CBS Mornings’ Latest Ratings: Did NBA Finals Boost ABC?
What To Know
- NBC’s Today remained the top-rated morning show for the week of June 8, despite ABC airing the highly watched NBA Finals.
- ABC’s Good Morning America saw a 6% viewership increase to 2.87 million but still trailed Today.
- CBS Mornings dropped to 1.65 million viewers, marking one of its lowest recent ratings.
Despite ABC airing the NBA Finals last week, which averaged 20.6 million viewers, it wasn’t enough to boost ABC News’ Good Morning America ahead of NBC News’ Today show.
According to Variety, citing Nielsen’s national live+same-day big data plus program ratings for the week of June 8, Good Morning America, co-hosted by Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan, averaged 2.87 million total viewers and 486,000 viewers in the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic.
While the show did increase by 6 percent, or 167,000 viewers, compared to the previous week, it still trailed Today.
Today, co-hosted by Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin, averaged 3.06 million total viewers and 682,000 demo viewers for the week of June 8. The show was up 3 percent, or 91,000 viewers, on the week prior, putting it at the top spot among the morning shows.
Meanwhile, CBS Mornings, co-hosted by Gayle King and Nate Burleson, averaged 1.65 million total viewers and 264,000 demo viewers for the week of June. According to Nielsen data, the show was down 47,000 viewers from the week before and marks one of the lowest CBS Mornings in recent memory.
CBS Mornings has been one of the shows under the spotlight in recent months due to the ongoing upheaval at CBS News. Earlier this year, Tony Dokoupil left the show after being promoted to the new anchor of CBS Evening News. There was also back-and-forth drama surrounding King and whether she’d remain with the show going forward.
CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss has made significant changes at the network since taking the position in October 2025. This included the firing of several key 60 Minutes staffers last month, such as executive producer Tanya Simon and correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi.
Earlier this month, veteran 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley aired his frustrations with Weiss during a staff meeting. He was subsequently terminated “for cause, effective immediately.”

I used to watch CBS Mornings regularly. As another viewer stated, our family now stays away from CBS news programs. We also used to tape 60 minutes to be able to watch later if not at home...not anymore.

Honestly, all the morning shows are old, outdated, boring, and one sided politically which is a big turn off. It\'s time for new blood all around.

Good Morning America is definitely the best! Since I am a Direct tv subscriber I have not seen it for almost 4 weeks as the feud between dtv and abc goes on. Their ratings (ABC) would be much higher if we all could watch it. I\'ve had a chance to watch NBC and CBS morning shows and they don\'tcome close to the quality of ABC \'s morning shows.

Sadly I am very dissatisfied with the decline in programming on CBS mornings. Too much about their lives, oprah, so called rap ‘entertainment ‘ and hip hop entertainment. They have deviated too far from what I thought had been a good show. They have lost their way.
And the merciless CBS deals. Come on. Ditch that segment.

More deals at ABC. Seems like 2 people daily now. Who is buying this stuff? Who is behind it?

I quit watching CBS morning, as Gayle King is obnoxious, all about her and her award shows she now goes to, going to all of he \"IT\" parties and such...she\'s 70 going on 20...and that is NOT a compliment! OMG...don\'t bring up Oprah\'s name around her, she\'ll take over the conversation even more than she usually does...Oprah this and Oprah that!! She just hangs onto Oprah, and is an Oprah wanna be! Oprah WAY more class than Gayle! I\'d like to see Adrianna Diez take her place!! She good, she blends better with the younger people that do that show, including Nate! I was very disappointed when I read they signed her to another contract...I enjoy the show when she\'s not on it!!! She needs to get over herself!!

True. Gail needs to calm down and remember the audience. And leave all the “free time chatter” to NBC. who cares what they did on the weekend. Nobody.
Photos from your daughters birthday party-nate- is not newsworthy.

Why doesn\'t Gale King show respect for the guests and fellow employees and let them have a say about what\'s going on with the news. She\'s very rude always butt\'s in always has to have the first word and the last word. I\'m so happy for Tony he\'s doing a Great job with the evening news.

Our household would not watch NBC even if it were the only news program on air. NBC\'s history of slanted, biased, news reporting is despicable.

GMA has always been my favorite show for news, sports, weather & feature stories. Honest, unbiased reporting, good chemistry between the hosts, humor, interesting and timely news and stories. I like the 50-state travel location features every 2 yrs or so(one coming up now on abc), the food contests around the country for the best apple pie, the best BBQ (clearly it’s Kansas City!), best hot dog in America, etc.
As for CBS, I’ve been a loyal & consistent viewer of their evening TV shows (the best lineup of all 3 major networks ), news programs, especially 60 Minutes, since it began 50+ yrs ago. Honest reporting and great journalists who reported the TRUTH, not driven by politics, bias or dishonest & corrupt politicians. Since Bari Weiss was put in charge in Oct 2025, her political bias, ideas about how to manage and very poor staffing decisions have led to loss of great journalists like Scott Pelley, Cecilia and Sharyn, top producers & more have been FIRED. Actions like this are the reason for CBS’ lower ratings & viewers. GET RID OF BARI WEISS AND HIRE THE HONEST 60 MINUTES REPORTERS BACK and STEPHEN COLBERT!!! You’ll see your rating & viewers increase.
