Nancy Guthrie Update: ‘Death Investigator’ Believes Local Worker Abducted Her
What To Know
- Veteran forensic scientist Barbara Butcher believes a local service worker or handyman was behind Nancy Guthrie’s alleged abduction.
- Ransom notes demanding millions in Bitcoin have not led to any confirmed ransom exchanges or credible leads.
- Butcher suspects Nancy may have died shortly after the abduction, possibly due to shock or health issues.
Veteran forensic scientist Barbara Butcher has suggested a local service worker, or handyman, was behind the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, who has now been missing for more than four months.
Speaking to Fox News Digital on Saturday (May 30), Butcher, who hosts Oxygen’s The Death Investigator, said, “I find it flabbergasting that anyone would take a woman her age, but what I think is probably the case is that someone in the area, maybe a handyman, maybe a service person, had known, had found out that Mrs. Guthrie was the mother of Savannah Guthrie and said, ‘Oh, she must be rich.'”
Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today‘s Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1, when police believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Investigators have released doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect and sent DNA for testing at the FBI lab in Quantico, but no suspects have been named.
Butcher, who described the suspect as “not well,” noted the lack of follow-up on ransom demands, leading her to believe that Nancy died after the alleged kidnapping.
“My second thought was that after time, when there was no valid ransom demand or any information forthcoming that it’s probably likely that Mrs. Guthrie died of shock, fright, heart disease, whatever it was, very soon after being taken from her home,” she explained.
Early in the case, an alleged ransom note was sent to TMZ and other outlets offering to return Nancy in exchange for the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. According to TMZ, the value of the Bitcoin demanded was in the “millions,” and the wallet address provided in the letter was legitimate.
Other alleged ransom notes and letters were sent later in the investigation, though their authenticity has not been confirmed. This included a letter where the sender allegedly apologized, claiming they didn’t realize how serious Nancy’s heart condition was and that she had “gone to be with God.”
“That’s just horrifying to me,” Butcher added on the thought that Nancy could have died during the alleged abduction. “And so now this kidnapper had nothing and probably, unfortunately, took her body into the desert and buried her there.”
This past weekend, former prosecutor-turned-criminal-defense attorney R.J. Dreiling told Hello! that he believes the ransom letters were nothing more than a distraction. “The lack of follow-through on any ransom demand makes it look like it was a distraction meant to throw off investigators,” he told the outlet.

I think that everybody who has the thoughts about what happened and when, knows absolutely nothing including me we weren't there. At this point it's just a guessing game. I hope they catch whoever it was.

Has anyone checked the all cameras spanning out from the home at least 10 miles? The Ring camera doesn’t show intelligence, so maybe he drove a bit with the mask on?
Or tracked all of the cell phones used in that area during the time to get all the phone numbers and check them all off one by one?
I know some people hang on the upper door frames, was DNA discovered above any door frames?
Just curious? M

You should call the FBI and offer to help them!

I think that first guy they arrested.. That delivery driver Cartel Carlos as I like to call him.. Delivered some packages to her house and figured out who she was.. So he and his cartel buddies planned out the kidnapping for ransom.. Something went wrong and she passed away.. I don't think we'll ever know exactly what happened.. If they haven't figured this out by now they never will..

I’m sad that it hasn’t had much attention on National News, or even Local News anymore. If you keep it in peoples minds… maybe people would See Something & Say Something! I’m just Heartbroken for Her Family! Celebrities or not… this poor “MOM” is Still Missing!!! 😢

Nobody knows. People are keeping it alive by conjecture only. Without these sloops playing guessing games the case is ice cold. And that is mysterious in and of itself

I have seen more than one forensic astrologer read her chart and say the same thing: her disappearance was tied to a female in the family and had something to do with a dispute. Interesting how the service industry (most likely people of color) are so easily pinned with the blame. Perhaps the detective(s) in this case need to use some additional methods to get to the truth and be willing to look closer to home.

I think it has to do with Svannah and her work. The guy was hired by someone who wants to hurt Savannah to abduct Nancy. He was not alone definitely.

I’m still suspicious of the sheriff and the son-in-law…the son in law
could have gone in when he took her home that night and unlock the back door as there was no signs of forced entry, that would have given someone easy access to the house. I believe someone that knew her and had a key to the house was involved. The Sheriff treated the crime unprofessionally and was not very pro-active in the investigation. He probably was involved in some way…he allowed people on the property and mixed up the DNA which makes FBI have harder job.
That sheriff needs to be fired! and they mentioned if they checked his personal phone, or questioned him that i ever heard in the media.
and i agree the border cameras should have been the first place they checked for possible suspects…I suspected the Sheriff and/or the Son in Law…common sense tells you something wasn’t right with them due to circumstances involved, and how local police force handled the crime scene etc. and WHY would the family let an 84 year old, with major health issues take an Uber to her daughters house that was 10 minutes away? (that’s never made sense to me) BUT, drove her home the night of the abduction…
I hope they find out and justice is done to the extent of the law.

The Sheriff really screwed this up and HE KNOWS MORE than he is letting on. Would NOT be surprised if he was involved.

I believe that FBI knows who did this crime. Very soon we are going to see this lowlife

Immediately after the kidnapping the border crossing cameras at the Nogales checkpoint should have been checked. I believe that she died or was killed and buried in Mexico.

O
Everyone know it was the demon son in law with help of the crooked sheriff , that's what the tea leaves say

Not everyone, since I don't know that. I'll wait to see what the investigators find out.
