Nancy Guthrie Update: Expert Discusses Human Remains Found Nearby

An anthropologist isn’t surprised a YouTuber found a human bone near the house from which Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today’s Savannah Guthrie, disappeared on February 1. In fact, James T. Watson said hundreds of bodies turn up every year in the desert surrounding Tucson, Arizona.
Alec Wysopal was live-streaming on YouTube on May 7 when he came across a bone in a dry river bank a few miles from Nancy’s house, as The New York Times reports. He called 911, and authorities responded to the scene and determined the human remains were not related to Nancy’s disappearance and would spur a “prehistoric anthropological investigation.”
Watson, curator of bioarchaelogy at the Arizona State Museum and an anthropology professor at the University of Arizona, said the bone dated back to between 650 and 1250 A.D., a period when the Hohokam people lived in the area, according to the Times.
And in a new interview with Fox News Digital, Watson said a skeleton and ceramic artifacts were unearthed where Wysopal found the bone. “All of that contextual evidence allowed me to be pretty sure that this individual was, in fact, Native American,” he said. “The ceramics really sort of drove home that point.”
The remains have been transferred to the Tohono O’odham tribe, descendants of the Hohokam people, per Fox News Digital.
And many more bodies will likely turn up in the area, Watson told the outlet. “The desert there is a pretty harsh environment, and obviously, it’s been settled for hundreds, thousands of years,” he said. “There’s a lot of places that an individual could get lost or pass away or hide a body. … As people start to poke into some of these crevices that don’t normally get poked into across the desert, they’re likely to find more individuals. … There are literally probably hundreds of bodies that are discovered every year out in the desert.”
Watson said Wysopal did the right thing by reporting the discovery to the authorities, and he urged others to treat remains with respect, saying, “Whether it is a thousand years old or 50 years old, these are human remains.”

I am truly sorry to Nancy's family. Nobody should have to go through this for what greedy,dirty, scandalous people. You people have no clue about life! My opinion is she is not alive and they will never find her remains. I buried a son and then my Mother. If you greedy people had anything like respect for yourself even you would never do this to Nancy and her family. GOD please give this family some answers rest their weary hearts. It’s all speculation because the cops and FBI and I’m sorry to say this but obviously they are not doing their job right. I mean it’s been a really long time with no leads that’s insane especially for the family. I mean people just don’t just disappear not with all this technology. I don’t know how Savannah Could go back to work I mean if it was my mom I’ll be a complete wreck from just the not knowing. I’ll be at the police station or FBI daily throwing a complete fit hell I’ll probably become a detective myself. I wouldn’t be able to sleep or eat it would all be me looking for my mom all day every day. I do really hope she’s ok and I’ll pray for her and the family.

Precious time was lost at the beginning of the investigation by the Pima County Sheriff's Department when the initial reports of a missing person were called into the Sheriff's Department.
The explanation given offered their initial take on it was, they didn't know she was Savannah Guthrie's mother and believed, Nancy being elderly, had probably just wandered away and would be found safe and sound.

I have watched the Nancy Guthrie case with interest not borne from the sensational aspect she is Savannah Guthrie's mother but, from the fearful aspect, Nancy is an elderly woman living alone and, as such, was a target showing just how vulnerable we become as we age.

If this is about revenge, then it might have something to do with Nancy's husband. He was a mining engineer. In 1932 a coal dust explosion at Zero Mine killed 23 miners including 6 brothers from a single family. They were from Claiborne County, Tennessee. The parents were Mr. &Mrs. James Nelson Massingill. There are two people in Tucson with the last name Massingill. One has a court or arrest records. Charles Guthries's father was involved in coal mining and operated coal companies in Harlan County.

I believe she knew her kidnapper...she is within 10 miles from her home....i believe there were 3 people involved...the driver...and 2 to carry her out and be the look out...i know cloraform was used.......they have been in her home before...they are locals.....without her medication she needs she could of die...i think it was not intensual....i think they panic....thats why they cant prove she is still alive....
