‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Getting New Texas-Set Spinoff

Yee-haw. Grey’s Anatomy is heading to the Lone Star State for its third spinoff series.
Deadline reports that ABC has ordered a new spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy, which will be cocreated by Shonda Rhimes and current Grey’s showrunner Meg Marinis and executive produced by series lead Ellen Pompeo.
According to the site, the new series is described as an “edgy drama about a team at a rural West Texas medical center, the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”
Marinis said in a statement about the news, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion, and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”
It is unclear if the series will receive a backdoor pilot episode, like Private Practice did with Kate Walsh‘s Addison Montgomery, or if it will cross over as regularly as Station 19 did, centering on Jason George‘s Ben Warren. However, the reporting indicates that it may include characters from Grey’s Anatomy‘s world. (Perhaps Jake Borelli‘s Levi Schmitt, who moved to Texas with his life partner in Season 21, will factor?) Still, it is expected to center on a new group of doctors.
The new series is expected to premiere in the midseason on ABC in 2027 and share a time period with Grey’s Anatomy.
Rhimes is expected to write the new series as well. Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for Season 23, which is expected to premiere this fall on ABC.

I'm not gonna get too excited about it caz I did with Private Practice & then again in Station 19 I feel like they're just gonna cancel it when we start loving it Station 19 deserved another season or 2

Been watching Grey's All its years. Would prefer they continue to invest in the original show creatively - rather than a spin-off again. Thankful a few original main characters are still foundation of the show with added good residents etc.

Since Texas is a red state, I hope we won't see a lot of MAGA types on the show. If so, I'm tuning out.

I could care less about a spinoff because I don’t watch the show anymore anyway ever since the original main Dr character left and you know who I’m talking about the very first character that got killed off and Dr Gray no woman is still on the show. I think all the acting has gone downhill ever since so big raspberry to the show.

According to my realistic and hopeful predictions, the OG 911's 10th season, the Nashville spinoff 's sophomore season and the legendary Grey's Anatomy's 23rd season will be starts from Thursday, November 12th, 2026 to Thursday, May 13th, 2027! 🙏🏿💜😁 And the Grey's Anatomy's brand new spinoff will be in the middle of next year (Thursday, May 20th, 2027)! 🙏🏿💜☺️ And that's all folks! 💯❤️🔥🤩

Why don't they just concentrate on the original and stop with the spin-offs? They give you just enough on the spins to get you hooked then they cancel them. So stay with the original and buzz off. I've watched Greys since S1 Ep 1 so just stay with it PLEASE!!
