What To Know

  • Ryan Murphy confirmed Jessica Lange’s return to American Horror Story Season 13 with a post on Instagram.
  • In the post, it looks like Lange is returning to her iconic role as Constance Langdon from Season 1’s Murder House.
  • Lange’s comeback, after previously stating she would not return, has thrilled fans ahead of the season’s Halloween 2026 premiere on FX and Hulu.

Producer and master of small-screen scares Ryan Murphy shared a first-look image from Season 13 of American Horror Story, and the sight is eerily familiar. Did he just confirm the return of not one, but two American Horror Story favorites in one post?

In an Instagram post shared Monday morning, April 6, the caption read, “American Horror Story, Season 13. Day One. The return of Jessica Lange!”

Judging by her signature hair and clothing, the two posted images appear to show Lange as Constance Langdon, the menacing matriarch of Season 1, as she stands facing a window at the infamous Murder House from Season 1.

If the image is indeed of Constance, it would confirm theories that the new season will return to both Coven and Apocalypse, especially since Season 8’s Apocalypse storyline also incorporated characters from the Season 1 Murder House arc.

On Halloween 2025, October 31, Ryan Murphy revealed the cast list for the upcoming Season 13, and for American Horror Story fans, the list is reminiscent of the Coven and Apocalypse seasons. The cast list includes Sarah PaulsonEvan PetersAngela BassettKathy BatesEmma RobertsBillie LourdGabourey SidibeLeslie Grossman, new addition Ariana Grande, and the big surprise, Jessica Lange.

While nothing has been confirmed about a return to New Orleans, the release date of Halloween 2026 is a bit witchy, and the original post even nods to it with Roberts’ signature Madison Montgomery catchphrase from Apocalypse: “Surprise, b***h. I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”

Lange’s return to the franchise was a surprise for fans, as the actress previously said she would not return. In an interview in February 2025, Lange was asked if she would ever return to the anthology series, and the Oscar winner stated, “Oh Christ, no,” Lange said. “I mean, I haven’t done it for more than 10 years, 12 years, so, no, I’m not doing it.” Her homecoming marks a major reversal and one that excites longtime viewers of the series.

In the comments, Murphy also might have confirmed his other prized regular, Angela Bassett, returning as Marie Laveau. As one fan commented, “Omg! Can’t wait! Plz make it a Coven extension! I need the witches in my life! Especially Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau,” to which Murphy then replied, “Done.”

Fans are celebrating the return of “their Supreme” Lange with joyous posts. “CONSTANCE!” wrote one fan, while another wrote, “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

“No way she’s back. This is crazy. This is gonna be a great season,” posted another fan, while another Instagram user wrote, “What we’ve all been asking and waiting for I AM SEATED!”
