Spoiler Alert
What To Know
- Outlander‘s latest episode puts Claire and Jamie in a precarious position as they withhold the truth about their involvement in the deaths of Buck MacKenzie’s parents.
- Should the couple tell their relative the truth about their role in Dougal and Geillis’s deaths? Sound off in our poll.
Outlander‘s latest episode, “Send for the Devil,” Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) face their latest threat on Fraser’s Ridge: Captain Cunningham (Kieran Bew). But that isn’t the only conflict unfolding as Claire and Jamie find themselves in close proximity with Buck MacKenzie (Diarmaid Murtagh).
The illegitimate son of Dougal (Graham McTavish) and Geillis (Lotte Verbeek) is also a time traveler who reconnected with the Frasers after helping Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) amid their ordeal with Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton). Fair warning: There are spoilers for Outlander Season 8 Episode 5 ahead!
Upon returning, Jamie confides in Buck the dilemma surrounding Frank Randall’s (Tobias Menzies) book, which suggests that Jamie is set to die in a battle at King’s Mountain. Buck agrees to fight on behalf of Jamie and support whatever men he gathers for the battle, but Claire asks if the man knows anything about the role they played in his parents’ deaths.

As fans will recall, Jamie and Claire stab Dougal through the heart moments before the Battle of Culloden in Season 2’s finale, and Geillis is beheaded by Claire in an effort to prevent the time traveler from targeting their daughter, Brianna, in Season 3’s finale episode. Both Dougal and Geillis made a comeback in Season 7, while Roger and Buck found themselves in the late 1730s, perhaps even witnessing the couple’s first meeting.
Ultimately, Claire and Jamie agree that Buck shouldn’t know the truth about their role in his parents’ deaths, but should they have a change of heart? As the latest installment unfolded, Jamie found himself in a near-death situation while fighting Captain Cunningham. Things got so precarious that Jamie was nearly pierced through the heart in the same manner that Dougal had been by him decades earlier.
Just as Jamie was about to meet his end, it was Buck who managed to deliver a shot into Cunningham that prevented the worst from happening. But considering Buck’s role in saving Jamie’s life, we can’t help but wonder if Jamie and Claire should provide Buck with some family history lessons, primarily about the fate of his mom and dad at their hands.
But we want to hear from you: Should Claire and Jamie get candid with Buck about their role in his parents’ deaths? Sound off in our poll and comments section below, and stay tuned to see what’s next as Outlander‘s final season unfolds on Starz.
