All is not well for Brookfield’s sweet townsfolk in this spinoff of When Calls the Heart set in the early 20th century and sporting a slightly updated title. At the end of When Hope Calls Season 2, lawyer Nora Anderson (Cindy Busby) learned that her ex-assistant Zoe (Kate Rachesky) unknowingly helped bribe a judge, directly impacting cases that Nora had won before leaving San Francisco for the idyllic Brookfield. Now, while Nora should be focusing on running the local orphanage, she’s worried those illegal actions will follow her — and jeopardize her budding relationship with Mountie Michael Fletcher (Christopher Russell).

“Season 3 picks up the day after that news,” Busby reveals. “Nora is potentially implicated in these bribery allegations, and she’s met with uncertainty. What does this mean for her? Of course, Mountie Michael finds out, and he doesn’t take it the way Nora would’ve hoped. That definitely brings on some complications.”

Mountie Michael, meanwhile, is just about to close in on the true mastermind behind last season’s cattle raids alongside Constable Jim Reynolds (Trevor Donovan). Of course, the crimes were committed by outlaw Jerry Huntsman (Jesse Hutch), who has abducted Tess (Wendy Crewson). The Mounties will mount a rescue.

Adding to Nora’s woes this season, her old mentor Carter Williams (Michael Hanrahan) visits to share his side of the legal drama. “We really get to see Nora in action as a lawyer [in Season 3], which we saw a little bit of in Season 2,” Busby says. “We’ll see a really grounded, analytical side of her. She’s romanticized her relationship with her old mentor, but also is not sure that he’s telling the truth.”

At least Nora’s love life has some fresh hope a-callin’: The young, new-in-town Rev. Joshua Daniels (Spartacus: House of Ashur‘s Simon Arblaster) “grows a liking to Nora,” Busby teases. “We’ve got a love triangle going on.” Is Nora about to be swept off her feet again? Hopefully not literally this time!

“I’ve got so many juicy scenes,” confirms Busby. “And then, you know, I’m not going to say anything, but the end of Season 3 ends with another, actually two, actually three massive pieces of news, which will leave audiences’ jaws on the ground,” the actress says with delight. We can’t wait to get back to Brookfield.
