Anonymous inspectors also sat down for on-the-record interviews to lend insight on their methods and CIA-like lengths they go to maintain anonymity. Staff never know if on a particular evening a diner could in fact hold the key to their professional future.
This culinary journey brings audiences into food scenes across the globe through featured chefs and their respective stories. Standards and expectations remain high. Watching certainly gives you a renewed appreciation for the skill, sacrifice, and dedication it takes to run a top-rated restaurant while working for that ultimate recognition of the Michelin Star.
All these elements are on full display in the above sneak peek shared first exclusively with TV Insider. During the clip we meet DJ Nelson, who took over as head chef of Pasta|Bar a year ago. Before taking on the role, he had never run a Michelin Star kitchen before. DJ shared he’d received formal training. He Pasta|Bar, started his career at an Applebee’s working as a host at age 14.
The experience helped him reach the conclusion he was not meant for the front of house. “They threw me in the back with the rest of the pirates,” DJ said as he prepared a dish. Adding, “There was a lot of learning to do very quickly. It did not come easy. Sometimes the best way to learn is the hard way.”
Needless to say DJ felt the pressure with Michelin Star recognition maintained in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Can he keep the streak alive? It was all riding on him for what would be his first Star. Actually, the restaurant is going for two Stars, doubling the stress to deliver high-quality dishes.
Can he do it? We’ll have to check out the finale of Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars to find out!
