Arielle Kebbel Says ‘9-1-1’ Prepared Her for ‘Rescue: HI-Surf’ — Would She Return as Lucy?

Arielle Kebbel as Lucy in 9-1-1
Exclusive
FOX

Before Arielle Kebbel was saving lives as a lifeguard on Fox’s new drama Rescue: HI-Surf, she was a first responder on another (then Fox) show, 9-1-1. (The series has since moved over to ABC starting with its seventh season.)

Kebbel played firefighter Lucy across 10 episodes in Seasons 5 and 6, working alongside then with the 118 — and causing some trouble in Buck’s (Oliver Stark) love life. While out for drinks celebrating an impressive rescue, she kissed him. His response? Rather than tell his girlfriend at the time, Taylor (Megan West), he asked her to move in. Needless to say, their relationship fell apart (and not just because of Lucy and that kiss). Kebbel was last seen in the Season 6 finale as part of the emergency that saw the entire 118 in trouble. So, when TV Insider caught up with Kebbel to talk about Rescue: HI-Surf, we had to ask if there’s any chance of seeing her on 9-1-1 again.

“I love that people still talk about me on that show. I’ll be honest, a lot of the 9-1-1 fans I thought hated Lucy. I thought that, I don’t know, people were so mad at her for kissing Buck, which really wasn’t her fault,” she noted.

“I loved playing her, and I loved being a part of that ensemble. Oh my gosh, they welcomed me with open arms. We had so many good laughs,” recalled Kebbel. “Now more than ever, any way to honor first responders, and of course firefighters, is an important act of respect. But I don’t know. I would love to. I guess I’m just pleasantly surprised people still ask about it because I felt like when I was on the show.”

She also shared that playing Lucy helped prepare her for the role of Em on Rescue: HI-Surf and there was a special connection to playing a firefighter for her.

“Actually, taking on the show, I had a big fear of fire. Half my house burned down when I was a child, and I remember I was screaming for 9-1-1,” Kebbel revealed. “I’ve always had such a respect — firefighters for me have been heroes since I was five years old, and so to be able to play one was so important to me. And so yeah, I would always go back.”

Do not care for the actress at all. Don't watch high surf because of her.

Love her on Hi Surf Rescue more! Her work outs are amazing! She can do anything! Prefer her on Hi-Surf than 911 especially now Buck has come out. They need to be more realistic if she comes back.

Glad she has other work but if they ever brought that waste of time character back to 9-1-1 I might quit watching. Lucy was never needed (Ravi filled the one empty spot and then Jonah filled the other), and every scene of hers would have made more sense coming from another character already on the show. I mean, she stole Ravi's probie storyline in Dumb Luck which should have had Buck talking him through a tough part of the job, but then right after, Bobby was gonna make her captain because she had so much experience? Please. We lost so much good stuff we should have had with our mains to make time for her, and a billion articles pushing her as the best thing to ever happen to the show because Kristen was obsessed with making Buck a cheater (despite his clear thoughts on that in s1) and putting him in a dumb love triangle instead of doing anything interesting with his character. You couldn't pay me to watch her other show but I hope it runs for 20 years just so she can never come back to 9-1-1 again. We have our firefam, she was never needed.

I think Ms Kebbel did a fine job on 911 and she does a great job on Rescue Hi Surf. She could return to 911 as a victim or a love interest for Eddie or someone else. Either way she will do a good job, but I hope she stays permanently with Rescue Hi Surf. Love both shows.

I think Lucy donato was amazing she made the show more interesting a breath of fresh air she the only reason i watch the show there no depth to the show no story just a group of people going to a scene I like how free she was she not a gutless coward she speaks her mind despite rank Ravi they don’t see him respect him which is sad 4 years captain Nash remember his name buck just use as a Eddie 2.0 friend and there not friends he’s no different than Han guy his firefighter skills needs work he’s better off as a medic I should know cause I am one Lucy maybe annoying to some but she has skills talent confidence Han Ravi doesn’t have it if you can’t perform basic firefighter skills why are on the truck you put your team at risk he can’t do that maneuver

Please for the love of god we really don‘t need that awful character back. Newsflash: We hated Lucy because Arielle and former showrunner Kristen Reidel acted like Lucy/Arielle was gods greatest gift for this show, while in reality the actress was totally annoying, couldn‘t act as a believable firefighter and was only on the show to become Bucks next horrible love interest. The fandom saw through it and that character failed spectacular. Stay on you surfer show Arielle, no need for you to come back to 911.
