‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon—The Book of Carol’: Melissa McBride Teases Carol’s Journey (VIDEO)
“I’m looking for a friend of mine.” So says Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), in the six-episode sophomore run of AMC‘s The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon spinoff, subtitled The Book of Carol, while on the hunt for her missing other half, best friend Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). She doesn’t know it yet, but Daryl’s been in France, hiding out at the Nest, a Normandy island village, with nun Isabelle Carriere (Clémence Poésy) and her nephew Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), who is considered a young messiah by the sanctuary’s inhabitants, the Union of Hope.
Carol, however, who made an exciting surprise appearance in the Season 1 finale, is still in America—or what’s left of it, over 10 years after the initial zombie outbreak. Shocked to learn of Daryl’s kidnapping and boat trip to France, she serendipitously befriends frequent flyer Ash (The Resident’s Manish Dayal), who owns a single-engine plane. But before Carol stamps her passport, she must convince Ash to take her overseas. It’s dangerous, and she doesn’t even know if Daryl is alive. Still, “I don’t think she would ever give up the mission,” McBride says confidently.
To persuade Ash, “Carol takes on a [certain] vulnerability and uses that to her advantage,” McBride says. “She’s [being] sneaky Carol…and she has some badassery.” Well, of course!
In our exclusive clip from AMC, Dayal’s Ash asks Carol, “Would you give up everything to look for somebody you haven’t met?” It’s a fair question, but Carol’s ready with her reply. “If there’s hope of finding them alive,” she quickly responds, “then, yes.”
Thankfully, Season 3 of Daryl Dixon has already been ordered and will be set and filmed in Spain. The official AMC logline states that the next round, “tracks Carol and Daryl as they continue their journey towards home and the ones they love.” So, we know they don’t make it back at the end of this season…but how do Carol and Daryl even find each other? You’ll have to watch and see. The highly-anticipated Carol-Daryl reunion moment, and the scenes between them that follow felt like sliding on a well-worn motorcycle jacket for McBride. “It was like we just picked up where we left off,” she says. “[Norman and I] have such a good time shooting together.”
Check out our exclusive clip to see Carol convince Ash to take her overseas in Season 2’s opener. How did she persuade him?
