‘Monsieur Spade’ Shows Clive Owen as a Dashing Detective in New Trailer (VIDEO)

AMC is releasing a new limited series called Monsieur Spade based on Dashiell Hammett’s Sam Spade character in the 1930s Maltese Falcon novels. Clive Owen will portray the role of Spade alongside co-stars Alfre Woodard and Dean Winters. Rounding out the cast are Stanley Weber, Matthew Beard, Cara Bossom, Denis Ménochet, Louise Bourgoin, Chiara Mastroianni, Jonathan Zaccaï, and Rebecca Root. The series is set in 1963 when private detective Spade is enjoying a relaxing retirement in the South of France.

“But the rumored return of his old adversary will change everything,” AMC Networks teases in a press release. “Six beloved nuns have been brutally murdered at the local convent. As the town grieves, secrets emerge, and new leads are established. Spade learns that the murders are somehow connected to a mysterious child who is believed to possess great powers.” Spade arrives at the scene in his trademark trench coat and fedora, ready to crack the case. The limited series was shot on location in France and was co-created, written, directed by, and executive-produced by Scott Frank along with Tom Fontana. It will air as a six-episode series.

The trailer for the limited series was released on November 17, 2023. Watch Spade complain in the almost two-minute sneak peek about leaving his luxurious retirement to look into this new case, irritated that he had to be brought in after the Vatican, French Intelligence, and the CIA could not solve the case involving a child.
