It’s the end of the world as they know it! After a meteor crashes to Earth on The Messengers, five seemingly random Americans drop dead and are resurrected as Angels of the Apocalypse–complete with such supernatural gifts as the power to heal. The group, consisting of radio astronomer Vera (Shantel VanSanten), televangelist Joshua (Jon Fletcher), DEA agent Raul (JD Pardo), young mother Erin (Sofia Black-D’Elia), and bullied teen Peter (Joel Courtney), are tasked by God to prevent the events associated with the Rapture while also facing off against the duplicitous Devil (Diogo Morgado). “At its core, the show is about faith and what it means to be forced to find that faith in a group of strangers,” says executive producer Trey Callaway. “And ultimately, for each of our characters, it’s about their longer quest to find faith in powers that may be far greater than any they have known.”

While the series is rich with mythology pulled from the Book of Revelation, Callaway says the heart of the tale lies within the characters. All of the budding angels had unresolved personal issues before the meteor struck: “We are very much rooted in deep, intimate stories of how people try to live their lives alongside a greater calling.”
