‘Abbott Elementary’ (Finally) Renewed for Season 2 at ABC — Fans React

Now is not a time to use inside voices because ABC‘s hit freshman comedy Abbott Elementary has finally been renewed for Season 2!

Principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James) announced the news through a memo addressed to “Faculty and Students (aka My Fans),” because anyone who has tuned into this mockumentary-style comedy knows Ava’s always trying to be in the spotlight.

The Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television production is ABC’s number one new comedy in two years for adults 18-49, and the season’s number one comedy in the same demo as it’s tied with CBS‘s Ghosts for the top spot.

Created by Quinta Brunson, the half-hour workplace comedy follows a group of passionate teachers who educate at one of Philadelphia’s underprivileged public schools. Despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life and help each other succeed as teachers.

Brunson also stars as optimistic teacher Janine Teagues and she’s joined by James, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, Tyler James Williams, and Chris Perfetti who help comprise the faculty at Abbott Elementary. Along with earning a renewal, Abbott Elementary has continued to build its viewer reach as the second telecast hit 9 million total viewers and scored a 2.93 rating among adults 18-49 after 35 days of viewing across linear and digital platforms.

Currently, on a brief hiatus, Season 1 will resume its run on Tuesday, March 22, with the episode, “Open House” in which Abbott Elementary opens its doors after hours for the teachers to meet with their student’s parents.
