‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Where Is Meredith & Nick’s Relationship Going? (VIDEO)

It seems as though Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) has found happiness with Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) after the two reconnected this season on Grey’s Anatomy. There’s just one problem: They live in different states.

For now, the long-distance relationship is working, though that has been helped by the fact that working on the Parkinson’s Trial brought Meredith to the Mayo Clinic. But when it was time for the next step (surgery for Peter Gallagher’s Dr. Hamilton), the location moved to Seattle. And “Legacy” showed that both have responsibilities in their respective cities — she was working on that surgery, he had a liver transplant — and traveling to see him means she’s away from her kids.

But Meredith did show up at Nick’s house at the end of the episode, delivering the news in person that they pulled off Hamilton’s surgery. “There was just one small hiccup though,” she said. “The only person I wanted to celebrate with lives 1500 miles away.” They didn’t address that, but bringing it up does remind us that something needs to be done about that sooner rather than later — and based on the promo for the next episode, it may need to be very soon.

After all, Nick admits to Meredith, “when I’m falling in love, I don’t love the feeling of losing control,” and the importance of the first part of that sentence doesn’t escape her. Just how serious can things get between them before they have to figure out what the future holds in terms of that long distance?

We already know that Grey’s will be back for Season 19, as will Pompeo as Meredith. We don’t know if Speedman will continue to play Nick, and that may very well factor into what happens between the two characters. If he stays, could Meredith really continue traveling to see him and he make a few trips to Seattle when he can? Could a move be in his future and that’s why we saw him scrub in and help out at Grey Sloan in “Living in a House Divided”? Was that a preview of what’s to come?
