Vikings: Valhalla is here to stay. Netflix ordered two more seasons of the new series, it announced March 9.

The show became a fast success, landing in the top 10 in 90 different countries after its series debut on February 25. It ranked number one on Netflix’s top 10 the week of February 28 with 113.38M hours viewed. And it brought in 80.5M hours viewed during its first two days the week prior, bringing it to 194M hours viewed in its first nine days.

Netflix previously ordered 24 episodes of Vikings: Valhalla. The March 9 announcement confirms there will be a total of three, eight-episode seasons. Season 2 has already wrapped filming and will come out in 2023. Season 3 starts production in the spring.

Vikings: Valhalla is a sequel series to History’s Vikings set 100 years in the future. It follows the adventures of 11th-century explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his pagan sister Freydis (Frida Gustavsson), and Harald (Leo Suter), the prince of Norway. All three will reprise their roles in Seasons 2 and 3, in addition to other cast members.

“As tensions between the Vikings and the English royals reach a bloody breaking point and as the Vikings themselves clash over their conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs,” Netflix said of Season 1, “these three Vikings begin an epic journey that will take them across oceans and through battlefields, from Kattegat to England and beyond, as they fight for survival and glory.”

Jeb Stuart will remain as creator, showrunner, and executive producer of both new seasons.

“Fans of Valhalla — THANK YOU to the millions of you who have watched (and rewatched!) Season 1,” Stuart said in a statement. “The numbers have been mind-boggling and beyond my wildest expectations. I’m thrilled to be able to confirm that we wrapped and are already editing Season 2 and that production will start soon on Season 2.  While the storylines for Leif, Freydis, Harald, Olaf, Canute, and the rest of our amazing cast are secret, I can say without hesitation that their journeys will be even more epic than what you’ve seen so far. SKÅL!!!”

“The fans have spoken and we couldn’t be more thrilled than to bring them more of the epic adventure and heart-pounding action they love,” Peter Friedlander, Head of US/Canada Scripted Series at Netflix, said. “Jeb Stuart has masterfully taken this beloved saga 125 years into the future and introduced a whole new generation of Vikings and stories that have resonated with new and existing fans all over the world. There is plenty more to avenge and more battles to fight!”

Morgan O’Sullivan, Michael Hirst, Sheila Hockin, Steve Stark, James Flynn, John Weber, Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer, and Paul Buccieri also executive produce. Vikings: Valhalla is produced by MGM Television.
