‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Adds Skylar Astin in Recurring Role
Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) will recur, starting with the March 24 episode, “Put the Squeeze on Me,” according to Variety. His character, Todd Eames, has a PhD in environmental sciences. Described as “charming and handsome with a gentle soul,” he “loves a good spreadsheet. He is close with his sister, who is a pregnant patient at Grey Sloan Memorial.”

Thanks to a photo Variety shared and ones from Astin (as seen in the tweet above), we know that he’ll be interacting with Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), but will it strictly be about his sister — Jo’s an OB-GYN resident — or might things get personal as well? That might depend on how things are between Jo and her best friend, Dr. Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack), after they hooked up … while he was upset about how his relationship with Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) ended. Whatever happens, chances are Jo and Todd will be spending plenty of time together since Astin will be in multiple episodes.
This casting comes as Grey’s heads into the second half of its 18th season. The good news is that ABC already renewed it for a 19th season in January, with Ellen Pompeo returning as Dr. Meredith Grey and Krista Vernoff continuing as showrunner.
“Grey’s Anatomy has a global impact that can’t be overstated. Grey’s touches, and sometimes changes, hearts and minds worldwide through the depth of connection people feel with these characters,” Vernoff said in a statement at the time. “I’m excited to work with our extraordinary writers to dream up where we go from here, and I’m always grateful to our partners at Disney and ABC for letting us tell bold stories with real impact.”
