A&E Reality Series ‘Adults Adopting Adults’ Pulled After 3 Episodes
In a surprising move, A&E has abruptly dropped its new reality series Adults Adopting Adults after just three episodes.
The series premiered on Monday, January 31, and had aired three episodes as of February 14. However, fans were confused on February 21 when the fourth episode didn’t air as expected. The three previously aired installments were subsequently removed from the network’s website and streaming outlets. The show was originally scheduled to broadcast 10 episodes.
A&E has yet to reveal why it pulled the series, but it comes in the aftermath of the controversy surrounding one of the show’s stars, Danny Huff. In the show, Danny appears with his wife Christy as they try to adopt 20-year-old Ileana from Austria. However, viewers were concerned when it was revealed that Danny once tried to adopt an 18-year-old woman he had developed romantic feelings for.
In one episode, Christy shared her worries that something similar was happening with her husband in regards to his feelings for Ileana. Fans also expressed similar concerns. Danny, however, has denied those claims and said it had nothing to do with why the show was dropped.
“[The allegations are] absolutely false,” he said in a statement to The Daily Beast. “I never had any inappropriate actions, words, comments, anything to [Ileana].”
Amid this controversy, Danny was accused of racism after a now-deleted TikTok video resurfaced, featuring the reality star blaming Black people for racism in America. “Black History Month, BET, all-Black colleges, Black Lives Matter, these are just examples of how racism is alive and well in this country,” he said (via Daily Beast). It isn’t known if this was considered in A&E’s decision to cancel the series.
This isn’t the first time an A&E series has been axed just weeks into its initial run. In 2015, the network yanked the swingers series Neighbors with Benefits.
