That greeting sets up a season that takes Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart)—in his new synthetic body—and the La Sirena crew back to Earth in 2024 for a choice that could save the galaxy’s future…or destroy it.

An old frenemy resurfaces
Picard’s perennially untrustworthy adversary Q (John de Lancie) has something up his sleeve for our hero. “What exactly Q is planning for Jean-Luc is the overarching mystery of the season,” co-showrunner Terry Matalas says.
Whoopi Goldberg returns as Guinan
Picard’s alien counselor/bartender (last seen in the 2002 movie Star Trek: Nemesis) has a pivotal role in the story, dispensing valuable advice to her old friend. Most importantly: “Your answers are not in the stars and they never have been.” Hmmm.
The past presents a personal challenge
“Traveling back to our century, our past, will force Picard to reconcile with the traumas of his own,” Matalas hints. “Not all the time travel this season is physical. Some of it is internal as well.”
