‘The Book of Boba Fett’: 8 Burning Questions After the Season 1 Finale

[WARNING: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for the Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett Season 1, Episode 7, “In The Name of Honor.”]

“In The Name of Honor” tied up Boba Fett’s (Temuera Morrison) season-long war with the Pyke Syndicate, leaving him victorious and Mos Espa at peace. Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) has jetted off across the stars with the cutest little green alien in the galaxy, back to his show and all the Darksaber drama within. And yet… we have some questions.

Here’s what we’re still wondering about post-finale.

Does Boba Even Want to be Daimyo?

“We were not meant for this,” Boba tells Fennec (Ming-Na Wen) as they stroll the streets of Mos Espa post-battle. Sure, they won the war, and he could be referring to the uncomfortable mountains of praise being heaped upon him in the aftermath. That said, it’s hard not to read this line as a man regretting his recent career change. Did the events of The Book of Boba Fett convince Boba that being a daimyo is what he really wants, or did they do the opposite? If the latter is true, it’s a good thing he already knows someone who’d be a good leader…

Where Does Cobb Vanth Go from Here?

If Boba doesn’t want to be a crime lord anymore, it’s possible he hands the job over to Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) and then he and Fennec skip over to The Mandalorian Season 3. Cobb has already proven himself an excellent leader, and “honorable crime lord-ing” just might be a good fit for the marshal. However, even if Boba keeps his position, it’s clear Cobb’s role in the Star Wars universe is far from done. Between his time in the bacta tank and whatever modifications Thundercat makes to him, it’s likely the marshal of Freetown will be with us for a good, long while. Cobb Vanth spinoff, anyone?

Is Cad Bane Alive?

Besides being literally too cool to die, there’s evidence in the episode that this might not be the last we see of Cad Bane (Corey Reed). After Boba stabs him, there’s a tiny, blinking device on his chest that doesn’t flicker out. In a space-based show, that tiny, blinking light could be incredibly important. Could that little square have been a tiny store of bacta? For that matter, did Boba even hit his heart? (There’s nothing saying Duros anatomy is even remotely similar to human anatomy.) We have our fingers crossed Bane sticks around — to lose him after one and a half episodes in live-action would be a shame, and given his connections to Boba’s past, he brings weight to the confrontations that the Pyke Syndicate just didn’t have.

What was the Deal with the Hutts?

Like Cad Bane, if The Book of Boba Fett gets a second season, it’s possible the Hutt twins reappear. Theoretically, now that the Pykes are gone and Boba’s the sole ruler of the territory, they might make a move, and the conflict could turn from Boba vs. Pyke Syndicate to Boba vs. Hutts. As it stands now, the twins feel underutilized.

What’s Fennec’s Story?

For a series that was supposed to be about Boba Fett and his friends, we didn’t get all that much development for Boba Fett or his friends. Boba, at least, had an emotionally resonant story told in flashbacks. The same cannot be said for Master Assassin Fennec. Even after seven episodes, pretty much everything we know about her is in her title.

If The Book of Boba Fett gets another season, it’d be nice to see her character and relationship with Boba explored beyond her quips, glares, general badassery, and delivery of essential knowledge. Where is she from? Did she ever have a family, or, like Boba, fellow bounty hunters who cared about her like one? Why, and how, did she become an assassin? How did she get that scar on her cheek? There’s so much story left to tell with Fennec, and we’re hoping whether it’s in an additional season of Boba Fett or The Mandalorian or another show entirely, that her character is fleshed out.

What Happened with Grogu’s Training?

Last we saw him before the finale, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) was telling little Grogu to pick between Yoda’s old lightsaber and Mando’s beskar armor. Apparently, he picked the chainmail… but what does that mean for his future as a Jedi? Pretty much all of The Mandalorian’s second season was about trying to get Grogu to a Jedi to train him, and for that storyline to be dropped so quickly would feel like a waste. Hopefully, there’s more to the story here than Luke kicking him out of the academy.

Is Max Rebo Safe? Is He Alright?

We can only assume the musician is OK, since he wasn’t at Garsa Fwip’s (Jennifer Beals) on the day the Pykes attacked. But we didn’t see him again in the finale, so the question remains: Where is he, and how did he manage to avoid yet another deadly explosion?

Where Will We See Boba and Fennec Again?

An appearance from these two — or one of them, at least — is all but guaranteed in The Mandalorian’s third season. Assuming they stick with the whole “crime lord” thing, maybe one of them stays behind and one of them goes with Din. But there’s another place we might yet see part of this duo: The Bad Batch’s second season. Fennec already appeared in Season 1, and given the show’s focus on clones, it’s possible a younger could Boba Fett show up.
