‘jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy’: First Look at Netflix’s Kanye West Documentary (VIDEO)

Following the journey of music star Kanye West from his early days to worldwide success, the first of the three-part documentary jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy will premiere on Netflix on February 16.

“A landmark documentary event presented in three acts from Clarence ‘Coodie’ Simmons and Chike Ozah, jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy is an intimate and revealing portrait of Kanye West’s experience, showcasing both his formative days trying to break through and his life today as a global brand and artist,” reads Netflix’s release.

“When I first put the camera on this up-and-coming producer back in’98, I knew he was destined for greatness,” says Simmons in the first look trailer. “The goal was to see how far his dreams would take him, but I had no idea where life would take us next.”

Twenty-one years in the making, Simmons’ never-before-seen footage of the hip hop icon will show the highs and lows of his journey to fame. “It felt like the bigger Kanye got, the further we grew apart. But there was more to Kanye’s story that I needed to tell,” he says.

The documentary made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2022. Ahead of its Netflix premiere, “Act 1 (Vision)” will play in theatres for a special one-day theatrical release on February 10. “Act 2” and “Act 3” will be released each consecutive week.

Simmons, Ozah, Leah Natasha Thomas, and Marjorie Clark produce the three-part event with executive producers Ian Orefice, Rebecca Teitel, Alexa Conway, Mike Beck, Thomson, Connor Schell, Angus Wall, Free Maiden, Gee Roberson, and Nick Tran. Ross Martin, Peter Pham, Kern Schireson, and Lynne Benioff serve as co-executive producers. The documentary is directed by Simmons and Ozah and written by Simmons and J. Ivy.

“If I do what I’m supposed to do, people are gonna look back like, ‘Man! Remember dude used to just make beats for people?’” concludes West near the end of the trailer.
