Lindsay Lohan Stars in New Planet Fitness Super Bowl Commercial (VIDEO)
Planet Fitness is running its first-ever ad spot during the upcoming Super Bowl, and Lindsay Lohan is the lead star of the commercial.
Created with Publicis Worldwide, the ad is scheduled to air during the third quarter of NBC‘s broadcast of Super Bowl LVI, according to Variety. It features Lohan taking part in a Planet Fitness workout regime with the likes of William Shatner, Dennis Rodman, Buzzy Cohen, and Danny Trejo telling viewers how much the Mean Girls star’s life has improved since she started working out regularly.
The ad sees Lohan working out at the gym while Shatner’s voice-over informs us how much this has helped change her life. “She’s never been sharper,” Shatner says as we see the Parent Trap actress dominating a game of Jeopardy! against Rodman and Cohen. There is also a joke about her “trading DUI’s for DIYs,” referencing the star’s troubled past.
“We really tried to have fun with it and find someone who could really own the stage at the Super Bowl for us,” said Planet Fitness chief marketing officer Jeremy Tucker (via Variety). “Our goal is to get as many people off the couch and to experience good things like fitness and feeling good — without the intimidation.”
While the company has run big TV ad spots in the past, most notably sponsoring Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve on ABC, this marks the first time Planet Fitness will have a presence during the Super Bowl.
“Lohan’s appearance is unexpected and makes you stop and pause, but it’s also authentic,” Tucker added.
The commercial marks Lohan’s first on-screen TV appearance since her 2018 role as Katerina West in the Netflix comedy series Sick Note. Later this year, she will return to Netflix for the holiday movie Falling for Christmas. In November last year, Lohan announced her engagement to her boyfriend Bader S. Shammas.
