H2 Viewers Aren’t Happy About Viceland Taking Over Their Channel
H2 viewers encountered quite a rude awakening over the past week.
Fans expecting to see shows like Ancient Aliens and Modern Marvels instead stumbled across a new crop of series with titles such as Balls Deep, F*ck That’s Delicious and Weediquette.
Nope, it’s not your father’s secondary History Channel anymore. Viceland, the new youth-skewing 24-hour cable channel from Vice Media and A+E Networks, replaced H2 on February 29. And although both media coverage and A+E trumpeted the news for weeks leading up to the switch, it still caught several audience members off guard.
“The only reason I didn’t get rid of cable was because of the H2 network,” one reader posted on Channel Guide’s website, which has now clocked more than 1,000 comments about the flip (many of them vulgar). “The new change is horrible. I now can leave cable and go back to streaming what I want.”
Another reader added: “The sad truth is that we are no longer the demographic to which the TV stations are marketing. They believe the under-30 crowd will produce the marketing dollars. Prepare for more of the same.”
An A+E Networks insider said the company was receiving the same volume of phone calls it gets from any show cancellation. “It’s pretty minimal,” he said. “We were pretty proactive about telling fans what was happening and where the programming would be available.”
And on the flip side, some reaction on Viceland’s Facebook page has been positive to the new channel: “I just stumbled upon this TV channel recently and i had never even heard of it, but now i am addicted to it,” wrote one poster. “I love all the variety it has and the different cultures. It truly is different and i like it a lot so far. Balls Deep is my favorite one so far. Viceland is one of my new favorite channels.” Added another, about Ellen Page’s new show Gaycation: “Incredible! So refreshing to watch something hard hitting & real. The interviewing, subject matter is just so touching & heartfelt.”

Although channel flips have become common these days, most makeovers are subtler than the steep turn from H2 to Viceland. When TV Guide Network turned into Pop, for example, it maintained programming such as soap opera repeats. ABC Family changed its name to Freeform this January, but kept the shows. Discovery swapped Military Channel into American Heroes Channel, but the network’s patriotic vibe remained.

In those cases, networks hope to hold on to part of the existing viewership base while also attracting a new crowd. But Viceland targets a much different (and extremely younger) audience than H2. Nielsen won’t release Viceland ratings yet, but the network has low expectations: According to Advertising Age, it is promising advertisers that it will initially deliver a paltry 0.1 rating among adults 18-49.
H2 was never a major ratings performer—it usually sat in the shadow of its much larger big sister, History, which remains one of cable’s most-watched networks. H2 launched in 1996 as History International, a sister to History Channel but focused more on world history. In 2011, the network was rebranded H2. As History Channel moved to more reality and scripted programming, much of its traditional documentary fare wound up on H2. But H2 also became known for its pseudo documentaries, particularly ones with a sci-fi bent.
In 2015, H2 averaged 392,000 viewers in primetime, placing it below Disney XD but above HLN in the rankers. The channel had dropped 11% vs. 2014.
For its final month of programming, H2 averaged 331,000 viewers. Its most-watched show for the week ending February 28—its final week on the air—was Hangar 1: The UFO Files, which averaged 516,000 viewers on Feb. 26.
H2 performed less in the adults 18-49 demographic–the one coveted by advertisers–which gave A+E further reason to make the switch, even though it might upset core viewers. It’s only been a week, so it’s too soon to tell whether H2 fans will have an impact, be it through social media or their cable providers.
It’s a gamble, of course, whether Viceland can go any better. Much of its target Millennial audience has been fleeing traditional TV for digital platforms. Viceland creative director Spike Jonze told reporters in January that Vice nonetheless wanted to launch a linear cable network because “for us, as a company to get this kind of production budget can still only be done in TV.”
As for what happens next to the H2 fare, viewers have so far said they haven’t been able to find any of it on the History channel. Nevertheless, A+E Networks says in a statement that “programming that appeared on H2 is now available on History and the History mobile app. Please check History.com for details.”

Secondly, shame on you A&E for broadcasting a show that literally has the word "F _ _ K" in it........really? Are you guys on crack? H2 was a channel that an entire family could watch and actually learn something. When I was a kid we had 3 major networks and PBS, and there was always something to watch. Now I have 300 and nothing to watch. How come the H2 shows haven't transferred to the History Channel as promised? All the great cable channels have turned to crap over the past 15 years, TLC, Bravo, Discovery, A&E and H.

I am absolutely outraged about losing H2. It was my favorite channel and I pretty much watched it almost 24/7. It made me want to further my education, and my love of history. I especially will miss Ancient Aliens, and all of the very interesting documentaries on Hell: The Devil's Domain, and Roman Vice. Not to mention Hangar 1, and all of that other amazing programming. Why, oh why are we forced to put up with this ABSOLUTE ABOMINATION of a channel that they forced on us. I feel dumber already for even attempting to watch five minutes of this terrible garbage. Plus, the History channel claimed that they would continue with some of the shows that aired on H2, and switch it over to the History Channel? When is that supposed to happen? I haven't seen not one of those shows on History channel since the switch. Ancient Aliens hasn't been on in over two weeks!!! What the hell is going on. Why couldn't this God awful drivel that they are spewing be forced onto another terrible channel? They just keep rerunning, in marathons mind you, some of the more boring old History shows, like Counting Cars. No offense to to anyone who actually watches that show. I want to make a petition to bring back H2!!!!

I absolutely HATE VICELAND, like most people H2 had shows that interested me, i watched it everyday, but ...i thought the shows would be moved to the History Channel but as of yet i have not seen them....i dont watch Counting Cars, Pawn Stars, American Pickers and such shows and that is ALL i have seen offered. I did check out a show on Viceland, but was extremely disappointed. PLEASE someone bring back H2 programming, i feel i need to get a roku and do away with Dish all together but at certain times of the day i watch other channels, BUT when those channels dont have what i want i always could turn on H2. VICELAND SUCKS, BAD MOVE

I absolutely hate the new channel 👎👎👎Vice Land 👎👎👎 there's enough dumb useless channels they could have changed without taking a fantastic channel like H2 off the air and then lie by telling us the wonderful shows that were on H2 like America Unearthed , Meltzer's Decoded, and Book of Secrets would be showed on History when they actually meant you can watch it on the History App and we're just going to keep repeating Pawn Stars and American Pickers over and over and over again. Just gives me yet another reason to get rid of cable ✌. Thanks for saving me the money I waste with cable glad I didn't have a 2 year contract. Jeremy.

H2 is alive and well in Playa Del Carmen. Just watched it yesterday. I've never seen Viceland. Bring H2 back to the States.

I gave Viceland a fair chance but to be exact it's terrible. I can't get into it -- and knowing it replaced H2 adds insult to injury. H2 was a go to channel and one of the best alternative channels out there. Please consider bringing it back.

H2 was the only one of the two history channels that ever showed The Universe, How the Earth Was Made, and all other manner of shows about the earth and ocean. Plus all the things about you know...actual history were on that channel like all the shows about Ancient Egypt and Rome. It was my go to channel the entire time Ive been trapped at home with a major injury. Ive just switched to food network and HGTV now because there is only so much pawn stars, american pickers, and counting cars reruns I can take before going insane.
They claimed we can find them on History Channel but have yet to actually deliver on that promise. So time to just stop watching them I guess.

H2 was never a major ratings performer - REALLY??? I'd be firing some executives for acting on bad data and not doing their research. You might think (based on the above) that you are getting the usual amount of complaints for a change like this but it's those customers that aren't leaving a comment that you should worry about. Count me out Viceland is one of the worst yet - bring back H2.

I'm outraged! H2 was my favorite channel on TV. Period. I paid extra for the channel and recorded several of the shows so I could watch when I had time. It was full of truth and history exploring things that msm doesn't cover. I actually learned from it. I am so disappointed it was taken off the air and to replace it with the Vice???. You might as well called it the Lucifer Channel and add that show to your line up. Maybe the transvestite mind f*** channel. It's just like the rest of the crap that being aired on TV. What's wrong with you people. I am dropping the extra cost and not paying for Vice. I've called Dish and they said you pay for the channel and can air what ever you want. They have no control over it. Good luck. I'm out. I'm disappointed. I think it stinks. It's so absolute opposite of what H2 represented. Viceland is a disgrace. It is so repulsive. The executive decision makers who made the change should be fired. I also noticed how the original History Channel was ruined. Almost all of the great history programming from the early 2000's has been replaced by shallow-minded reality-show programs. The channel is no longer worthy of being called History. I used to watch it all the time and now rarely do. It was one of the main reasons I subscribed to cable. What has happened is an absolute tragedy. I read that this change was made to pander to the Millennials. If that is what the younger generation wants, it shows how shallow and spoiled they truly are.

I have always had cable. I always loved the educational channels and not the pseudo ones that have dumbed down their content over the past ten years (ie. DIY shows that have become channels for anything but learning). I have had two occasions that I've actually had to learn how to use the parental controls and as you'd guess these were years and years apart. When Viceland aired I was intrigued and hopefully that I wouldnt see the kind of reviews that I see everywhere. I even gave it a couple weeks before I was compelled to block it. It is so unbelievably bad that I don't even want to accidentally land on it because it's smack dab in the middle of the best channels on cable. The content is homogenized nonsense, UN original and UN creative. Completely and utterly predictable. The show with Ellen page, sheesh, about 10 minutes of that dopey mock compassion fake documentary was about all I could stomach. And as a side note, she should've waited about 10 years to come out; it would've been better for her career. When Jody foster came out it didn't really matter but at least no one lost respect for her because she really wasn't trying to garner any attention....anyway. Most people really do NOT want to know about their kind of sexual intercourse; please, grow up you are not a persecuted minority and stop trying to pretend you've had your rights infringed upon like the Jews or the blacks or the Irish or the Kurds or the Tibetans or the Palestinians. Please someone kick this pig of a channel! How in the name of all things sacred can you make a series about pot? That ridiculous "Balls Deep", I'm surprised they're not being sued by some low rent porno production company. Ok, so Ancient Aliens is exactly the Biography series that the original History Channel offered. But TLC used to stand for The Learning Channel. Discovery used to only have science programming. Animal Planet had real animal programming, not Pitbulls and Parolees. Etc. There is a huge dearth of quality programming in the US. Why do you think so many of us found Downton Abbey on PBS? Some of us actually don't want to lose brain cells when turning on the tv. H2, although not as evolved as the original channels from 15-20 years ago, at least had shows on that made people think or taught something. This new channel is so low I am making my husband block it and all the other stuff I have left in the lineup just because we were too lazy to channel lock. 99% of the crap we pay for monthly we DON"T WANT and absolutely NEVER watch. Why can't we decide our programming? We're the ones paying for it. The minute reality t.v. became a thing, we all lost. Start calling the channels what they are- History is now the Pawn Stars channel. Animal Planet is about building tree houses and fish tanks for rich people. I don't even know what you'd call the others, but they're crap. But now we have Viceland, with shows with F word in the title? Come on. Cable is very likely responsible for the dumbing down of America already. Get rid of Viceland, bring back H2, and start producing quality thought-provoking shows for those of us who actually pay for the cable, not the teens who are up in their bedrooms streaming on their ipads.

I have literally 1000 plus channels on my comcast system why not just move H2 to one of those channels? I tried to watch a few things on Vice but they were juvenile, preachy or just very poor tv. vice doesn't reach my Millennial kids they don't watch TV only netflix and net video like youtube. and anyone older is unlikely to start watching vice. really bone head decision. I predict a quite big failure as it is moved to more obscure channesl only to be eventulay unplugged

Viceland is nothing but trash. Not sure what is going on with the people who make these decisions... someone should be FIRED. I recall years ago they took off "Shark" and replaced it with "Swingtown" ... STUPID... lasted 1 season. I work in a call center as a video tech and I get calls from people asking what happened to H2. I tell them to complain to the network. Does it really do any good? NO!

the library that I need to get around to reading soon and several
hobbies that I've fallen behind on. Guess I'll save money on electricity

Wow! I'm part of the target demographic of the new channel, and I can honestly say I will not watch this garbage. I just removed the channel from my guide. H2 was great and I had just gotten my teenage kids into the various shows about aliens, conspiracies and miscellaneous documentaries. They have only watched a few minutes of the new viceland, and they hate it too. At least in this household, viceland has missed the 11-40 demographic. I'm using streaming services more and more. Viceland's arrival has convinced me to drop satellite service. Now if only I can convince my wife.

Amazon Prime Instant + Amazon Fire TV + Playstation Vue (Elite Slim $45 per month for 104 channels of live TV) + HD Antenna + VUDU. There ya go. All you need to Cut the Cord.
I'm on my 4th day of a 7 day free trial of Playstation VUE and I'm totally impressed! Sony's put together a service with three channel/pricing tiers plus add-ons that is extremely competitive to cable & satellite TV. I'll be contacting TWC within the next few days to downgrade to Roadrunner Turbo only.
Oh, and I really like Fire TV. Very, very cool box.
EDIT: This doesn't solve the H2 to VICE switch, but it does send a signal to the cable & Satellite TV service that there's a price to pay for the way they package and price their TV packages, and the deals they negotiate with the actual content providers. They can't keep bending to the pressures of the conglomerates like A&E, et al, and including a bunch of useless junk in order to get a decent channel or two, then pass the price along to their customers. I've had it and there are now some very viable alternatives that allow me to tailor my paid subscriptions to what I actually want without all the bloat. I also don't like content being moved from a lower tier to a higher tier, then having that content blown away by something like VICE.

Update: I walked into the local TW store and turned in my set top box and Ubee modem, cancelling those two services. I then informed them I'd be replacing Roadrunner with Earthlink and getting the Turbo level service for $39/month for 6 months and then $51/month thereafter. They hate that because Earthlink uses TW infrastructure!
The service rep told me TW could do better, much better and I said TW was going to charge me $70/month for Turbo. Show me some numbers. She upgraded me to RR Extreme for $35/month for 1 year. So I'm now getting 3o Mbps @ $35/month vs. 20 Mbps @ $70/month. Hah!
Bottom Line: Playstation Vue ($45), + RR Extreme ($35) + Vonnage Basic Talk ($19) = $99/month vs. my TW Triple Play @ $149/month. I tossed in MLBTV Premium which comes out to $6/month with my military discount. Needless to say I'm very, very happy!

I noticed that I couldn't find H2 a couple weeks ago. Today I didn't want to watch Swamp People, so I did a hard search for H2 just now and still couldn't find it, so I googled it to find the channel. I look at the vice programs and I see Weediquette, state of undress, flop house, noisey, b. deep... I will never watch any of this crap. I'm 33, in the targeted age group. I'm watching less and less cable and more Netflix. The day will come and I'll be gone.

I'm a 57 yrs old white woman, retired police office who upon hitting menopause had my intuition go through the roof. I'm now on a path of enlightenment that I'm thankful for. The shows on Viceland are interesting and informative. I've even changed my mind about Marijuana that culturally was beat into my brain that wasn't good for people. I believe now that it does have greater value than the federal govt believes it has. I don't use it. I still hate the smell. But it has medical value for many out there. I'm heterosexual but the LGBT STORIES are interesting. My pursuit of spiritual studies proves being gay is more geared towards individuals living their spiritual journey as gay blessed by spirit as a particular learning process during this particular incarnation. Yes, I've learned reincarnation is real too (another cultural subject beat into my head that is not possible but it really is real). Good luck to Viceland Channel to be successful.

I understand the fierce loyalty many have for the programing on H2.I too loved the shows on that network. I'm also a history buff so where and when they ever decide to broadcast those H2 shows will probably suprise us all. Or if they choose to dump them that too may suprise many of us.
I'm seeing Viceland as a documentary channel based on their programs aired so far.They are interesting and informative. More importantly they target a certain audience who have very little subject matter spread out over all the various channels that are up and running now.
I'm balking at saying this but when we were all younger we wished for broadcasting aimed at our interests. It is all cyclical. When each group of young people get into their 20's they want to watch shows that pique their minds. And to us older folks we are just shaking our heads wondering if America will survive after we're gone and these "kids" are running the joint.
Often times we base our fears on our concerns when we see the god awful TV shows they watch. But remember when we were young the older generation thought the country was going to hades in a hand basket based on what we watched on TV and many other things that we were interested in. So sit back and relax because this channel belongs to a different generation. You can learn new things from some of the shows. But if there is a lack of interest in this channel (Nielsen ratings) then this channel will go the way that the Al Jazeera America channel has gone...kaput.

The content is what it is, love it or hate it. They just belabor the hell out of it. They actually show movies from the 90's....what kind of a Mickey mouse channel is this. What, did they run out of content already? History used to run movies but there was purpose to it. They had interviews and discussed the historicity of the piece and the related events.

I can really see both sides of this debate. I did watch H2 quite a bit during the day. I love the shows about ancient Egypt or the Middle Ages that they seldom show on History anymore, and History mostly shows reality shows (Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men, etc.) which have nothing to do with history, the subject. However, I'm finding the new Viceland channel really interesting and watched several hours of it in the past few days.

We've cancelled Cable TV. Roku, Google, and Amazon get our entertainment dollars. The strange change from H2 to Viceland was ridiculous. The under 30 crowd doesn't watch television, they watch YouTube. Now my wife and I don't watch Cable TV either, I put up a rooftop antenna for local news, NFL games, and some network shows. We then stream the shows we absolutely like... Nothing from Viceland though, it's a horrible teenager channel.
Good job History channel, brilliant move. NOT!

One Month Later & Viceland STILL stinks. They show 80's and 90's movies. That's right, like the ones that used to be at Blockbuster that everyone ignored. The ones that no one ever rented. TV for me hasn't been the same since this drastic change. The only shows I like to watch are ones with some educational value or make me think. I'm not complaining about the new channel, I'm just very dissapointed that one of my few favorite channels has been taken away. History channel has no history, only more reality shows to rot my brain, so that is not for me. I am a 26 year old male that misses my favorite channel. Please give back the channel with some value.

Haven't watched much of anything on viceland, and have no intention of changing anytime soon. It's garbage. There's not one show that's grabbed my attention. Sometimes I forget H2 is gone and flip the channel there, and some weird alternative lives, broken heart bullshit dreck is on.

Unbelievable. Today is Saturday ,April 23, 2016. It was raining earlier this afternoon so I decided to do a little channel surfing. After about 10 minutes. I finally found a channel that wasn't showing a commercial. ( keep in mind that I pay a ridiculous cable bill so I can watch these commercials) .I finally landed on history channel and counting cars was on .....ALL DAY!!! AND ALL NIGHT!!! So I scrolled through the menu to see when the marathon ends...3:30 am Sunday morning. Then three hours of paid programming and then low and behold...ANOTHER MARATHON!!!!
My point is, the history channel is either running on auto pilot and don't really give a f--- about what they show us or there are some uneducated personal that work there who think we actually watch marathons of reality TV.
My channel guide goes all the way to channel 1644 and the spot for history 2 was the only place to put VICE . ...GARBAGE. I hope they fail and fail quickly

Like many of you, I hate Viceland. I watched H2 regularly, DVR'd multiple shows, bought books from some of the show hosts (Scott Wolters for instance), and hate that I won't be getting new episodes for my favorite shows. Whatever I watch, I guarantee it won't be Viceland, everything I've tried to watch sucked. Super disappointed.

I'm very very unhappy that I'm not able to see anymore History 2 channel. I thought I'm among few people who watch this channel, I was wrong. I read some comments and YES I agree they shovel that Viceland on our trouts - why I said that ? simple - If we HAVE to pay to upgraded to more channels and most of us upgraded just to see History 2 ( me one of them) - and after that they change with something we don't like - how you name that ?
Personally I don's see any reason to fight for. The solution is simple. Cancel the upgrades or cancel all and go for something you like - like stream. I see no reason to pay extra for something I don't like. People who like Viceland are more than happy to pay for something they like.
Personally i will give them til the end of this month. If I wont find anywhere thous shows ( ancient aliens, book of secrets..) I will just cancel my subscription.
OH... one more thing, don't come with" if you want to see that channel ( H2) you have to pay more to subscribe to more channels" because we change thous shows to a more upgraded package.
I already have 200+++ channels and nothing to watch on tv. Honestly I'm tired to go up and down thru channel hoping to find something, and find nothing. I think that's just waste of money, or money for nothing. That's only from my side , other people may find something witch they like to watch, unfortunately not me.

Most of the angry comments are from old far-right republicans. Not exactly the demographic that Viceland is targeting. That said, they've deluded the quality of content on their website and youtube channels in order to put stuff on this channel. Most of what they're running is the old youtube content (like "Toxic Garbage Island"). I think they've stretched too far too fast. The best stories are going to the HBO show, a few ok shows are on the channel now (e.g. the weed show), and the garbage is now being dumped onto youtube. You'll note that the tv channel isn't even running advertisements. I'm not sure if that's because no one will advertise, or they think they're being hip/cool by only running promos of their own shows. Either way, Viceland is likely to not last more than a year or two is my guess.

And technically I'm even a millenial (barely, born in 81). but its pretty hilarious to see people here talking about H2 like it was anything other than garbage itself. Every third show on H2 was some stupid conspiracy show or something about Aliens that was pretty much 100% bullshit. Stories that should be found in the pages of the National Enquirer not on a channel that professes to be about History.
Things like H2 are the reason why actual history is in such poor shape these days. People spend more time learning about ridiculous made up "history" than actual history. Or even worse, they think actual history is wrong. H2 gave legitimacy to ridiculous bullshit like "Aliens built the pyramids" instead of leaving it in the pseudo-science/batshit insane garbage bin where it belonged. Now millions of people think its a legitimate idea (it absolutely is not).
As a person with an actual degree in history who has travelled all over the world to examine real history, hearing people talk about having a "love of history" while simultaneously praising a shows like Ancient Aliens (or worse, claiming H2 is a vehicle for learning, lol) makes me sad for our world. If you had an actual love of history then you would be sent into a boiling rage by watching even 10 seconds of Ancient Aliens because its pretty much a giant middle finger to history. As was H2 in general.
In short, VICE sucks, but so did H2. It had about as much to do with actual history as VICELAND does. Good riddance.

Of course, A&E started out as a fantastic network with art and documentary programming, and they went the way of the dodo. I too counted on H2 as my go to channel, I really have not seen any of its line up elsewhere. It is really a shame to one, not let us know about it on the many commercials we pay for and we do pay for it. Second let us know where we can catch our favorite shows, it only make sense to do those two things and it is too simple to do. At the end of he day a very mishandled change that affects not only the viewers but the livelihood of some of the actors or real people making a dollar from it, I think of the bond I made with the many shows, that I know are feeding he families of the actors/reality stars. Lastly can the History Channel quit showing Pawn Stars, American Pickers etc in blocks of time that could have shown the true History we have been watching. I like Pawn stars and the rest but in moderation so you are !@#$ up two channels. This really does suck, I really enjoyed the programming.

We lossed H2, an extemely sad and dissapointing move to replace it with the channel they did. Regardless of what audience Viceland is for, H2 didn't target an audience, rather openly produced historic relevant shows that were potentially apealing to any person and actually educated people. I lost my favorite channel. Also, they lied and acted to inform us that the shows lost from H2 would go to History channel. This did not happen comparably. Even as Ancient Aliens has rarely been on at all, almost no other shows have been remotely seen or advertised.

It's called "What On Earth" and is on the Science Channel, so enjoy. Before that i was pissed when they took the documentaries and shows on the medieval times, modern marvel, etc. off of the history channel. Now they put this Sh!t on? What the F@#k? Can't believe they got rid of H2. I saw where the ratings weren't real high for H2, but people had to buy some expanded "special" package to get H2. I had to be willing to upgrade $40/month to the next channel package from my cable provider to get H2. Make H2 as readily available as the crap on regular History Channel and you'll get better ratings. I don't remember the last time I watched History. I'm over shows like Pawn Stars and Pickers. And if I want to watch people work on cars I have channels for that. It would be cool if History Channel actually got back to its roots and away from these cartoon characters they have on there now. History could be on to something though. Look at the crap that's popular on tv nowadays. We really do have an over abundance of brain dead idiots in this country. Only recently realized it was gone; I admit I didn't watch H2 much, but I did like it. A&E, Discovery, TLC, History; all channels that used to actually be good and educational. One by one, all have taken to the dark side, with nothing but mindless "reality" shows available. Even NatGeo and Animal Planet deal more in junk fare. When History went that way, at least they gave us H2; now that's gone, and I can only hope they don't screw up AHC and Smithsonian as well. I'm lucky, because I don't have to pay much for this trash we have nowadays, and I always have services like The Great Courses to turn to if I want intelligent programming.

seems i'm behind the times...i want h2 back, it was one of the few channels i watch (i recently changed from "regular" comcast to xfinity which also sucks, but that's for another post) h2 existed for me until i switched...while i'm no prude and am all for cannabis legalization, but viceland is despicable; the shows available to children in the afternoon are well, pretty awful. will be complaining to comcast/xfinity to get rid of it. ugh.

I really miss H2. Fiction or not, I always looked forward to turning on my television and finding something interesting to watch and/or learn.
H2 should have been put in the categories of non-profit and for educational use; so it would not need the populous of marketing dollars and high rating performances.
Sadly, I dread wanting to turn on television because the only demographic getting the most attention is the 20's-30's of people doing dumb, stupid, and crazy things.
To the people who were behind the production of H2, please find a way to bring the network back. For branding purposes, I'd be happy if you called it H3. Just please, give me and others a reasons to watch meaningful television again.

The epitome was when the host said that he could tell that this particular outdoor plant he saw (on a journey through some crazy part of africa somewhere), was a "male" plant... "Because of the presence of all the seeds in the bud (a cola bud, on an actual pollinated FEMALE PLANT!) told him that this particular plant was a MALE plant..." Because of all the seeds in one of the ripe cola buds...really? What a tard! This was in Season 2, I believe. Which makes it sooo much worse, he's had years to learn the simple, basic, cycles of the plant.

I blocked it. ViceLand stinks big time. The first thing I would do when I turned on the TV (before VL) was go to the History Channel(s). Now, I hardly even watch H because it's all reality shows...Whoopty Do!. You know, the real reason they dumped H2 is because of sponsors/advertising space. I used to marvel at the dumb commercials on H2. They were all insurance companies targeting the elderly or "As Seen On TV" junk that no one wants. Usually I just turn the channel when the commercials come on as I get "consumer fatigue" from all the junk these companies want you to buy; but I digress.
Nice job VL for destabilizing our viewing!

I only just got my cable back and one of the things I was looking forward to was some decent history shows, being so incredibly tired of American Pickers and the other reality shows that now pass for history on the other channel!!! Yes, I'm probably in an extremely tiny segment of the population, but for heaven's sakes!!!!! So trying to watch the offerings on the computer......does it cost anything? So very tired of this world!

And another thing, it's a systemic problem with cable because everything is owned by a hand full of misanthropes in media. Had to block Nickelodeon, what a piece of work those dummies are! Watching one evening while the kids are still up and a commercial for Birth Control Pills comes on. Birth control on a network that kids and tweens watch. What a work of fiction this world is becoming! Then there's the ever present ED commercials and the questions of "what is ED?" from an 8 year old. With all the supposed guys with ED had wives that looked like those models maybe they wouldn't have ED; very frustrating how all of a sudden EVERYONE needs it. All the de-regulating Bill Clinton did in office one of the products of that was that pharmaceutical companies could market directly to consumers. What we get is a bevy of drug commercials that people really don't need that cause everything from thoughts of suicide to rectal seepage wrapped in a nice bow in the guise of happy people, sunny days, cute puppies and cheerful background music. And yes American Pickers is getting a bit hum drum but it is better than some of the other ones that have filled the void since our wise cable execs decided H2 had to go.

Oh my god, how could they think that viceland would appeal to young people? I hated the history channels already. I got really fucking tired of ancient aliens and started laughing at the irony of me getting my historical "fix" from science rather than history. but holy hell why did they have to do viceland? Its one of the most blatant appeals to the "millennial" generation so far. Why can't they just accept that this pandering is bullshit, and is more insulting than it is appealing?

I LOVE Viceland!!!! I usually have to DIG for this kind of heartfelt, eye-opening reporting - now I can just flip on the 'ol tv and just start getting into the meat of these issues!!
And the heavy, empathetic, intellectually complex, HEARTFELT content is emotionally balanced by the EXCESSIVE, RECKLESS, INTERESTING, VARIABLE GOOFYNESS of the other shows - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!

Hey, pssst, I know you're 40 and with all do respect, there's this thing called the internet and on it there is this AWESOME YT channel called VICE. It's progressive, cool, edgy and many times even R rated. It challenges you to consider subjects that many in media wont touch. But the nice thing is, you go to IT. IT is a destination channel with a gizillion loyal followers and it doesn't try to Gag you with its own agenda. If you want to see some really great stuff, go there. ViceLand isn't even the Miller Lite version of VICE.

Gotta say that I'm a former history channel fan. Viceland looks like garbage pertaining to me, no interest. History used to be my favorite channel but not now. Used to like modern marvels, dog fights etc.
Right now I'm streaming. If you want documentaries I'm finding I like curiosity stream. I think it's only 2.99 a month for standard definition, but it's got some interesting things on it. Earlier I was watching a cool show on the war of 1812.
Guess they should rename history channel to reality.

Was flipping channels and went to my usual area out of habit. And just to remark and point out that I am so grateful to VL for blowing a hole in the middle of a batch of educational channels. Nothing's changed. VL is still a Dog. They cleaned up their potty mouth a bit but they're still selling their agenda even though it doesn't improve anything. The shows are more banal reality programs than documentaries. They still show old rerun movies. It's just a horrid channel. R.I.P. H2 you truly are missed. To VL I can say this, the channel remains blocked and no matter what lies you pedal about your success you still reak of mediocrity. Six months out from you wrecking H channel and I still have such indigestion that, even though I can suffer the urge to throw up I just as soon make myself hurl.

Why is Viceland showing up on my Dish 120+ package the first few days of July 2016? I purposfully downgraded my package, months ago, to one where I didnt have to pay for or watch this channel specifically. I intend to not pay for this Liberal kind of crap, and will not be financially supporting it. If I have to cancel Dish, because they have added viceland to all packages, then I dont mind doing it.

So H2 was scrapped for some short attention span Millennial-targeted garbage channel. Isn't that special. Those of us who enjoy history, military, science, and wildlife channels and documentaries are slowly being pushed out for more reality show BS aimed at mindless zombies under 30. I didn't think that market segment even watched TV. I thought all they did was stream on their tablets and smart phones and watch Youtube.
Well, the good news is that on this trend level, a lot of us will be saving $100+/month. These channels are disappearing altogether, not just being dropped by the cable companies. That makes the decision to cut cable that much easier. Big mistake on the cable network execs and advertising companies...thinking that Millennials have more buying power than the 30+ year old market segment. There's a record amount of college graduates living at home because they can't find a job!
They'll learn the hard way I suppose. Someone will figure out that as Baby Boomers retire and GenX'rs & GenY'rs get older, that's a huge market to tap.

I'm not sure of the programming for the History Channel. I don't find Pawn Stars, Counting Cars, American Pickers, or that guy that fixes stuff interesting enough to watch more than a couple of minutes. Viceland? Some parts are pretty good. Spending a couple of hours on skateboarders is 119 minutes too long for anyone, including skateboarders. What is it with this "Vile Vortexes" crap? Are they going in for science fiction now? What a let down.

Why is there so much hate on Viceland? They're bringing stories from around the world to your doorstep. Not all the programs are equal but some are really great and allow you to see into life outside western civilization, allowing you to see some real world happenings. Relating it to regular programming reality TV shows...are you serious? It's a fresh take on TV. WHICH WE NEED. TV has never been more stagnant or pungent. Good job vice on shaking things up a bit.

States of Undress with Hailey gates is an incredible show! You may not like the style of journalism, however you can not say it is garbage. Fashion is huge for young kids these days and this show examines what it's like in other countries where they don't have be freedom to dress or express themselves the way we do in America.
It's also funny I'm hearing about "garbage reality TV" when Pawn Stars (a garbage reality show[thats not even real]) was on H2. As well as their most popular show on H2 being about aliens. How sad. Haha. I'd rather watch an informational documentary about something I can relate to like smoking weed and fashion, than watch a show where some "scientists" sit around and theorize about aliens.

I personally like Viceland. It's funny actually Vice featured an Ancient Aliens episode with Vice hosts reminiscing about how it was still on. But I think this is very foward thinking television. Some people will have the opinion that it's garbage. But the channel reflects documentary style filming with the good, the bad, and the ugly. Which is why this program is definitely not a family program anymore but still revolutionary television all the same. I do miss H2 shows, but I like Viceland and will continue to support it. Just my opinion, don't rip me apart.

While I can't say I don't enjoy some of the documentaries and shows on VICELAND, especially VICEessentials, which covers stories that rarely ever would be heard about through mainstream news, such as life in Gaza, or in some place in Africa that everyone forgets about, it does erk me that they dissolved H2 to create VICEland, i mean seriously? They can't just add another channel slot and keep H2? I miss my H2 documentaries, and while I do like some of VICEs programming, I don't watch it quite as much as I used to watch H2.

I love Viceland. Weediquette is the best show. From what I heard, H2 was all about that corny Ancient Alien show. All that crap was made up. It was a channel for conspiracy theorists. This a real channel about real things.
And sure, the youth of this country might not watch live TV, but they sure do DVR a lot of it. In fact, Weediquette is one of the few shows on my DVR. Good riddance to H2. History already has a channel, go watch it.

H2 was one of my favorite channels. Since history has mostly American Pickers, Pawn Stars, and other worse shows, H2 had become my go-to channel, closely follwed by Science and AHC. I was trying to change my cable supplier so I could still get H2 when I discovered it has disappeared forever. Now I may never see my favorite shows again. You guys are on my bad list. I called H2 the 'real' History Channel...(I even upgraded my service just to get History International years ago) and that does not apply to the pseudo science programming (UFO/alien crap.) I absolutely abhor reality TV and avoid it like the plague...books are much more satisfying and it appears that my library will just have to get bigger. I've used the other alternate History Channels as well, but decent programming there is getting harder and harder to find too. It makes me sad to see that intelligent offerings are being phased out in favor of cheaply produced junk. Shame on you programming gods!

Viceland should be one of those abscur channels that is placed in the group of channels you simply pass over to get to the good ones, IE. POP, Ovation, LOGO. Bullshit channels like that. Are you talking to me? All I can say is don't judge the shows (or the network) until you have watched a few of them. I tuned in to watch an episode of Balls Deep which was filmed near where I live, found it interesting, and stayed to watch more programming.

So far there's, roughly, two people who like it. They don't offer a type of show I couldn't already watch on travel channel, the food network, Link, or FSTV. And none of those channels came at the price of losing others as far as I know. And people's beef should be with A&E, not their cable provider. A&E is the culprit and I hope they lose their ass over this channel.
