Bones’ final season kicks off January 3 on Fox just where the show ended last summer: Brennan (Emily Deschanel) has gone missing, and the team suspects that former colleague Zack (Eric Millegan) is responsible—and that he’s also elusive serial killer the Puppeteer.

Booth (David Boreanaz) sets out to find his wife, but “given Zack’s genius IQ, it is extremely unlikely that he left behind any clues,” executive producer Michael Peterson says of the episode, which Deschanel directed.

“There is also a danger that any clues could have been left purposefully, either to throw them off track or to lead them into a trap.” But for longtime Bones fans, Peterson teases, “the truth is, there is only one place he would take Brennan.”
