Zohran Mamdani

Zohran Kwame Mamdani is an American politician and Democratic nominee for New York City mayor in 2025. He was first elected a New York State Assemblymember in 2020 as part of a wave of progressive candidates supported by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Mamdani is known for advocating for housing justice, tenants’ rights, criminal justice reform, and immigrant protections.

Before his political career, he worked as a housing counselor and organizer. He is also the son of filmmaker Mira Nair and political scientist Mahmood Mamdani. Born in Uganda and raised in New York, Zohran brings a global perspective to his local political work.
