Best Films With Little or No Dialogue — Where Will ‘Motor City’ Rank?

Some films let actions, music, and visuals do all the talking. Take the new film Motor City, for example. The action thriller stars Alan Ritchson, Shailene Woodley, and Ben Foster in a story of revenge set in 1970s Detroit. And there’s very little dialogue to be heard.

“Everyone was up for that challenge,” director Potsy Ponciroli told Polygon. “Shay and Ben, in the diner scene, it’s this couple making up after leaving on bad terms. It’s a four-minute-and-change scene, and it’s like, ‘How do you navigate that moment without saying a single word?’”

Ritchson, meanwhile, was happy not to have dialogue to worry about. “I can put all the work that would go into memorizing lines into other things,” the actor told the Detroit Free Press.

While we wait to get a read on Motor City after its theatrical premiere, we’re singing the praises of other films with little or no dialogue. Here are our picks for the best of this unusual film genre.
