‘The Cadburys’: Sweet Taste of New BritBox Series Revealed in First Images
BritBox is serving up its first taste of The Cadburys, the upcoming period drama about the family behind one of the world’s most famous chocolate brands.
The streamer has released the first photos from the six-episode series, which recently wrapped filming in Birmingham and is set to premiere in 2027. Inspired by Deborah Cadbury’s book Chocolate Wars, the drama follows the Cadbury family as they attempt to transform their struggling cocoa business into a confectionery empire in 1860s England.
The first-look pics feature Toby Regbo and Harry Gilby as brothers Richard and George Cadbury, as well as Pearce Quigley as Cadbury patriarch John Cadbury, Jessica Barden as Maria Cadbury, and Mathew Baynton as fellow chocolate pioneer Joseph Rowntree.

What is The Cadburys about?
Toby Regbo and Harry Gilby star as brothers Richard and George Cadbury, who unexpectedly find themselves in charge of the failing family business at a time when chocolate as we know it doesn’t even exist. While George becomes obsessed with creating the first solid eating cocoa, the brothers must combine their very different talents if they have any hope of keeping the company alive.
Meanwhile, their sister Maria (Jessica Barden) is trying to find her own place within the family and its business. Things get considerably messier when she falls for Francis Fry (Ben Hardy), a member of the family behind Cadbury’s biggest rival.

Toby Regbo, Harry Gilby, and Jessica Barden star as the Cadbury siblings, with Poppy Gilbert as Richard’s love interest, Elizabeth Adlington, and Ben Hardy as Francis Fry, Maria’s romantic interest and a member of the rival Fry family. Pearce Quigley plays John Cadbury, while Joanna Scanlan stars as Elizabeth’s mother, Dorothy Adlington, and Mathew Baynton plays fellow inventor Joseph Rowntree.
Additional cast members include Felicity Montagu as Mary Brown, Adam Hashmi as William Singh, Oli Green as Howard Lloyd, Alexander Butler as Frank Sheldon, Leah Swain-Heath as Mabel Froggatt, Maisie Britton as Aoife Fitzpatrick, and Emma Montrochet as Winnie Smith.

Who is behind The Cadburys?
The Cadburys is from writer Chloë Mi Lin Ewart, who leads a writing team that also includes Eve Hedderwick Turner and Karim Khan. Tom McKay and Jill Robertson direct.
The series is a BritBox North America commission with UKTV and is produced by Fable Pictures in association with Alfresco Pictures. Freddie Highmore is among the executive producers.
