‘Outlander’: Is [Spoiler] Dead? & 5 More Questions We Need Answered in the Finale

Outlander has delivered some of its biggest cliffhangers for Jamie (Sam Heughan), Claire (Caitriona Balfe), and the rest of the gang in a while with the penultimate Season 7 episode, “A Practical Guide for Time-Travelers,” which hinted at possible death, teased a kidnapping, and much more.
War really kicked off as the First Battle of Saratoga commenced in this episode, leaving William (Charles Vandervaart) a changed man and Jamie in a high-stakes state. Mixing in some shenanigans set in the 1980s with Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin), we have plenty of questions we need answered when Season 7’s Part 1 finale episode arrives on August 11. As fans will recall, Season 7 has been divided in two, with Episode 8 serving as a sort of finale until the second half arrives sometime in 2024.

Is Jamie Dead?
In the final seconds of the episode, it’s revealed that Jamie is lying unconscious on a battlefield, on the opposite side of his son William. Will he be saved, or does death knock on the Fraser patriarch’s door? While we’re more than willing to bet the king of men will awaken, it’s unclear where his current status will lead him as the first half of Season 7 winds down. At the very least, we hope to see Jamie and Claire reunited before the finale.
Where Has Jemmy Gone?
Towards the end of the episode, it was revealed that Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton) kidnapped Roger and Brianna’s son after making them think he was organizing a sleepover for the boy and his nephew. Finding Jemmy’s (Blake Johnston-Miller) scarf at the standing stones at Craigh Na Dun, all signs point to Jemmy being somewhere lost in time, but where?
What Will Buck Do?
After sorting things out with Buck MacKenzie (Diarmaid Murtagh) through conversation, Roger and Brianna agreed to let the time-traveler stay with them until attempting to return to his own time, but will he? Roger shared that the family timeline suggests Buck died in the year he disappeared through the stones, so whether he returns to his own time and dies or never returns remains to be seen. But we’d like to see more of the “cousin” who popped up in the 1980s, so here’s to hoping he sticks around past the finale.
What Happened to Ian?
While we saw Ian (John Bell) standing alongside Indigenous soldiers as they confronted a stray redcoat. But what happened on the rebel side of things is unclear. Although we know Jamie is unconscious, we’d still like to know Ian’s status and whether we should worry about him.
Is William Going to Step Back?
The young redcoat saw the horrors of war for the first time in the Battle of Saratoga, but will that be enough to sway his position on the war? It’s clear he’s displeased with the celebratory nature of the more experienced ranks, but will the reality of this war’s stakes take a toll on his position? While we don’t anticipate this kind of reaction anytime soon, perhaps there’s more to uncover on the horizon.
Will Claire Be Forced to Save Jamie's Life?
If Jamie’s dragged back to the rebel camp for treatment, only one person could tend to his medical care the best. Will Claire discover her husband has been harmed by finding him in the hospital tent?
