8 Best 'NCIS' Undercover Episodes (PHOTOS)
CBS (2); Monty Brinton/CBS
"Chained" (Season 2, Episode 10)
Tony (Michael Weatherly
) went undercover as a prisoner, with Gibbs and Kate (Sasha Alexander
) as his backup. But it wasn't always clear who the most dangerous person was.
"Under Covers" (Season 3, Episode 8)
Tony and Ziva's (Cote de Pablo
) undercover stint as a married couple came early on, and the FBI agents who'd been watching the "assassins" didn't quite buy they were faking it.
"Angel of Death" (Season 4, Episode 24)
Tony's time undercover as Tony DiNardo to get close to Jeanne Benoit (Scottie Thompson) led to this episode's final moments: an introduction to her father, an international arms dealer.
"Recoil" (Season 5, Episode 16)
Ziva went undercover to catch a suspected serial killer and ended up in danger herself.
"The Admiral's Daughter" (Season 11, Episode 23)
No one from the team was undercover in this one, but Tony learned that the admiral's daughter he was assigned to escort back to D.C. was.
"Blast from the Past" (Season 12, Episode 16)
Gibbs went undercover as an IT technician. Enough said.
"Off the Grid" (Season 14, Episode 12)
Gibbs resumed an old alias without informing the team after he spotted someone from a former assignment.
The NCIS team may not do it as often as their West Coast counterparts, but over the years, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his agents have gone undercover for assignments.
Some were more memorable — and lasted longer (Jeanne Benoit) — than others. A few put them in dangerous situations or in unfamiliar roles (like as a couple or doing a job they're not equipped for). Some didn't last too long, but they did leave quite the impression.
These episodes include vital information or speak to Ziva's character and her bond with the team (and especially Gibbs).
