‘Best Medicine’ & ‘Doc’ First Looks: What to Expect From Fox’s Doctors This Fall
Exclusive
The doctor will (once again) see you on Tuesdays this fall on Fox.
Best Medicine and Doc both return, for their second and third seasons, respectively, on Tuesday, September 22, and TV Insider has an exclusive first look at new art for the two medical series. Scroll down to check them out.
As Best Medicine‘s images tell and show us, Josh Charles‘ Dr. Martin Best is still not that big a fan of Port Wenn, despite defending it in the Season 1 finale. But he can’t escape them — including his will-they-or-won’t-they love interest, Louisa (Abigail Spencer), aunt Sarah (Annie Potts), friend sheriff Mark (Josh Segarra), or assistant Elaine (Cree) — and, of course, his dog, Copernicus. He will continue to take steps forward, executive producer Rodney Ferrell recently told us from the set of the cozy dramedy.
“I think the good thing about how Liz [Tuccillo, showrunner] has crafted this character of Martin is that it is always two steps forward, one step back with him. You think he’s progressing along, you think something’s happening, but he has a lot of emotional stuff that he has never dealt with. So, when things start to get too close, when things start to get too underneath his skin, he retreats, right? And then he has to crawl his way back,” he explained. “So, I think that’s what we’re constantly dealing with. He does start to get better about the blood [phobia]. He starts feeling more welcoming in the town and continues to do that. But then a series of things happen that just he closes off again and just gets scared to be open. And that’s a constant thing that Louisa and everybody have to keep dealing with.”
Meanwhile, over on Doc, as you can see, the matter of Amy (Molly Parker) trying to get her memories back after a car accident took eight years’ worth of them will continue. That will include what she remembers and when about her past relationship with the newest doctor to join full-time, Blair Underwood‘s Ben Grant, introduced in the Season 2 finale. That, of course, is bound to complicate her already messy love life, which includes her ex-husband Michael (Omar Metwally) and Jake (Jon Ecker).
“Last season, Amy’s memories were a warning sign sparked by triggering moments, but this season her memories are more tied to emotional moments from her past that meant a great deal to her, including her relationships with Blair Underwood’s Ben Grant, Jake Heller, and ex-husband Michael Hamda,” executive producers Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg tell us. “These memories may be less physically taxing on her body, but they will spike emotional reactions that will permeate throughout the season.”
Scroll down to check out the new posters for both shows.

Pretty certain Best Medicine is just going to continue to get ideas from the original Doc Martin. As it should. Why wouldn't you? They have nine seasons to steal from. But they definitely should have replaced the annoying assistant in the first season like the original did.
