Moon Bloodgood Exits Apple Series — Is This a Sign ‘Code Black’ Is Renewed?
Fans were devastated when CBS’ Code Black ended after a three-season run. But today, there may be hope!
The series’ former star Moon Bloodgood just exited the upcoming Apple series Are You Sleeping, also starring Octavia Spencer, Lizzy Caplan, Aaron Paul, and Ron Cephas Jones, among others. Bloodgood was set to star as Cath Min — Spencer’s character’s best friend — as a series regular.
Deadline reports that the actress left the project because the role didn’t work out for her. And in the meantime, the show has taken a hiatus to recast her role. It was reported that Bloodgood finished her scenes but they will be reshot with a new actress.
Are You Sleeping centers on Spencer’s character Poppy Parnell, an investigative reporter hoping to solve the mystery behind a murder verdict via her podcast. The series will be part of Apple’s new streaming platform.
For now, Bloodgood’s exit doesn’t appear to have any motive or other influence beyond creative differences. But for fans of Code Black, this could be a positive sign. Despite being canceled, the series has had a lot of buzz surrounding a potential return.
At CBS’ TCA panel earlier this month, President of CBS Entertainment Kelly Kahl even hinted at the series’ possible return. “It’s doing incredibly well. It’s a well done show,” Kahl teased. “We’d like to figure out a way to maybe make it work. Economics were a little challenged on it but it’s certainly performing well and we’re going to take a look.”
Bloodgood starred on the medical drama as Rox Valenzuela who was tied to Rob Lowe‘s Ethan Willis. Now that Bloodgood’s obligation to Are You Sleeping is no longer, she certainly has free space in her schedule if the show is saved.
