At this year’s annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which celebrates the acting community nominating and celebrating their peers, seven stars reminisced over how they acquired the SAG cards that officially inducted them into the acting union.

For Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who won Outstanding Performance in an Ensemble for Game of Thrones last year, a short-lived 2007 series called New Amsterdam led to his SAG card.

As for a few ladies, commercials (real and fake) were the start…while others got theirs for more risqué roles. Ellie Kemper, nominated Outstanding Actress in a Comedy for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, got her moment from shooting a K-mart commercial that involved a giant tarantula “so furry and large, it was closer to a kitten,” crawling across her face. Christina Ricci, recognized for The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, a Saturday Night Live faux-mercial about the Jersey Shore sealed the deal. At just 8 years old, Ricci had to cheer when medical waste came out of a piñata. Laughing, she recalled, “I did a really great job!” Orange Is the New Black‘s Lori Petty, on the other hand, “lied and said I had a SAG card when I played a baby hooker on The Equalizer!”
