Outlander fans know the chemistry between series stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan is heart-pounding. And yes, they’ve had that type of electricity right from the beginning.
When casting for the Starz show first started, Jamie Fraser’s role was filled pretty quickly by Heughan, but the search for the perfect Claire Randall took ages. That is, until Balfe walked in.
In this first chemistry screen test clip, published by ETOnline, Sassenachs can see how immediate and special Cait and Sam’s bond is. Executive producer Ronald D. Moore said about the clip, “They’ve already got the shorthand of their characters and there is definitely on-camera chemistry between the two. After the scene was over, we just kind of kept the tape running a little bit.”
“We just wanted to see them a little bit more relaxed and sort of interacting,” he added. “You can see that they’re sort of awkwardly aware that the camera is still running, but nonetheless, there is enough spontaneity and genuine affection and good humor between the two of them that it spoke volumes about their potential relationship.”
