Jimmy Kimmel Tearfully Recounts Son’s Birth and Heart Surgery (VIDEO)

Jimmy Kimmel got personal and emotional when he shared details of his newborn son's medical struggles.

We are used to late night funny-man Jimmy Kimmel making jokes and cracking wise, so when he somberly addressed his Jimmy Kimmel Live! audience on Monday night, fans took notice. “I have a story to tell about something that happened to our family,” Kimmel began, while choking back tears. “I try not to get emotional, but before I go into it, I want you to know it has a happy ending.”

Kimmel then shared details of his son William “Billy” John Kimmel’s April 21 birth and what happened shortly thereafter, when an astute nurse noticed that something wasn’t right.

After a series of tests, Baby Billy was diagnosed with a heart disorder, and at three days old, he had successful open heart surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. “It was the longest three hours of my life,” Kimmel recounted.  Jimmy took the time to thank the nurses and doctors who had a hand in his son’s care and is happy to report that his son is home and doing all of the things that a baby should—including peeing on his mother.

Jimmy also thanked each of the nurses and doctors who had a hand in his son’s care and is happy to report that Billy is home and doing all of the things that a baby should—including peeing on his mother.

The proud papa also shared pictures of his adorable family. Congrats to Jimmy and Molly, and welcome Billy!
