What To Know

  • Bruno Tonioli was the second contestant eliminated from Hulu’s The Mob.
  • In an interview with TV Insider, he explains his alliance with Demi Engemann and reacts to Joe Gorga whacking him.
  • Tonioli also weighs in on why Carrie Ann Inaba would do well on the Hulu competition show.

Bruno Tonioli‘s fate on The Mob was sealed in Episode 3 when Joe Gorga, who was still in the power position as “The Don,” whacked him because of his growing friendship with Demi Engemann.

“It’s all good. I mean, listen, what can you do?” Tonioli told TV Insider. “If you remember back in the days of kings and emperors, as soon as somebody came to power, they were literally killing the closest threats. I was actually expecting it, especially because myself and Demi combined drew a little too much attention. [It was] too strong out of the gate, as they say.”

Tonioli said his alliance with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star happened organically. “It wasn’t really planned,” he explained. “We just kind of clicked and it happened so fast. The first couple of days, I think a lot of it is that you go by instinct. I was having a laugh, to be honest. I enjoyed the scenery and it was like being on holiday with your best girlfriend.”

The Dancing With the Stars judge said he “enjoyed everyone’s company” in the cast, although he noted he mostly clicked with Engemann and Debi Mazar. “I was going with the flow,” he admitted. “I should have been a little more sneaky, but it’s not in my nature.”

He also bonded with former DWTS contestant Romeo Miller. “Bless him, I gave him yoga lessons,” Tonioli laughed. “He was so uptight. I said, ‘Darling, I think I give him some yoga lessons to help him with his back.'”

While Tonioli admittedly didn’t have a chance to talk to Miller or Harry Jowsey, another former DWTS contestant, about their shared history, he noted that “Dancing With the Stars, at the moment, is actually the best we’ve ever done. I mean, come on, it’s just the best show on TV.”

As for which of his fellow DWTS judges would fare better on The Mob, Tonioli picked Carrie Ann Inaba. “She’s very intuitive,” he pointed out. “Derek [Hough] and I are much more … I think Carrie Ann is more intuitive. She’s more sensitive, in a way, while the two of us are much more … we just kind of go for it.”

He also said Engemann would do great on DWTS and joked that he could get “revenge” on Gorga with “ones and twos” if the Real Housewives of New Jersey star ever competed. “I would never do that,” he later clarified. “It’d be purely based on performance.”
