‘The View’ Hosts Predict JD Vance Won’t Be GOP 2028 Nominee
The cohosts of The View got spooky on Friday’s (October 30) episode with an opening based on the horror flick Obsession that saw Sara Haines accidentally unleash Sunny Hostin‘s obsessive side with her One Wish Willow. After that, the conversations got even scarier.
The first “Hot Topic” of the day was whether, if Democrats gain control of Congressional chambers, they should move to impeach Donald Trump for a third time. The panelists were united in declaring that no, they should not, and instead wanted to see the new Congress get to work on issues like the affordability crisis, tariffs, and other American woes. They were, however, favorable to an impeachment of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The second “Hot Topic” centered on JD Vance, and the cohosts were also in lockstep when it came to their beliefs that Republicans will not choose the sitting vice president as their 2028 candidate.
Alyssa Farah Griffin, who has insider contacts within the Republican party, spoke up first to say, “So there’s this common thinking in Republican operative circles that JD Vance is the heir-apparent, and I’ve even heard people saying Marco Rubio is not even going to run. No one would challenge a sitting vice president. I totally don’t think that’s the case. I think there’ll be a big field. I think Ted Cruz will likely run. I think Ron DeSantis might in it. Even Hegseth might think he’s up to it. There’s going to be a bunch of people who’ll run.”
She went on to say that she’s gotten to know Vance and his team and doesn’t think he’s equipped to unite his party. “The problem with J.D. Vance is he plays very well with the MAGA base, but he hasn’t looked to embrace moderates and independents. I will always think of him and hear the phrase, ‘I don’t really care what happens in Ukraine,’ or making fun of childless cat ladies. There’s this brashness and meanness that doesn’t bring more people into the fold.”
Haines agreed, but for a different reason. “I think supporting the ad that Vivek Ramaswamy did most recently really put the nail in the coffin. Vance did. He continually is backing it now, as they’ve already realized that was probably a false turn. When you put someone’s mom in an ad that now it’s being released she had some mental issues, she was unwell. As a character witness, when she, the mom, stayed with the man that was accused of raping her daughter when she was nine to 12 years old, you showed me enough character in that ad to know you are not my person. Ramaswamy is not my person. JD Vance is not my person.”
Ana Navarro, meanwhile, wanted to keep eyes on the prize of winning the midterms, saying, “We have four days for people to make a plan to get out to vote, people need to make sure it’s on their schedule. They need to call their family, their friends, their children, their network, their colleagues, and make sure everyone has a plan to vote. And then the next day after the election, we can start playing these power games, and we will be able to see just how bad the Trump stench that people like Marco Rubio and J.D. Vance will have to deal with in 2028 will be.”
Hostin echoed Navarro’s point to say, “JD Vance is just not charismatic and is unlikable, and 54% of Americans agree with me. But what she said. Like, let’s just turn out the vote. That’s what’s most important. 2028 feels like a really long time away feels like a really long way.”
