‘Treasure Island’ Sneak Peek: Long John Silver Faces Off With Bess Hawkins
Things are getting intense on the high-seas voyage in the next episode of Treasure Island, judging by the above sneak peek, exclusive to TV Insider.
In this new clip from Sunday’s (October 25) episode, “The Wide Eternal Sea,” Long John Silver (David Oyelowo) and Bess Hawkins (Hayley Atwell) have a tense exchange about her relationships with both son Jim Hawkins (Tom Sweet) and Aaron Graham (Jack Huston).
“Aren’t you in enough trouble without looming at my door, Mr. Silver?” she asks him in the scene. “Or is this some matter you wish to speak to me about?”
“I let your boy do that,” he then teases.
“You stay away from my boy,” she warns in response.
“But will he stay away from me? Because who knows where you’d taken him?” he says.

When Bess then explains that she’s taking Jim to recover the gold that belongs to Captain Flint, not him, Silver points out it’s not hers either.
“True, but here we are: 40 days on your boundless, boneless sea, 40 days and 40 nights, and soon to be at port where your ends will stand unmet,” she notes.
When he suggests she’s merely playing Mr. Graham “for a fool,” she counters with, “Mr. Graham and I are fools for each other.” She then hits him below the belt with an insult that simply has to hurt. Check the video above to see Bess’ final word on this matter!
Treasure Island is a modernized rendering of the classic adventure story by Robert Louis Stevenson, which brings Bess into the story (and the journey) for the first time while offering a new background to Silver’s story. And though it takes some creative liberties, the appeal remains the same, per Oyelowo.
“Adventure, of course, is something that we all aspire towards and crave in our lives. I think the open seas afford that awe, that wonder, the unknown, as it were,” the actor told TV Insider. “There’s something about pirates specifically in relation to that ship, those costumes, the fights, both in terms of what we’ve seen cinematically, what we’ve seen in literature, but also I think it evokes a sort of childhood spirit of play.”
