‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ Cast on Season 2 Guest Stars & Show’s Ending
When Star Trek: Starfleet Academy returns in March 2027, it will be for the second and final season. And so when stars Bella Shepard (Genesis), Sandro Rosta (Caleb), and Karim Diané (Jay-Den) stopped by TV Insider’s New York Comic Con suite, we had to try to get scoop on how it will all end.
“It’s complicated,” Shepard says in the video above. “We end off, I guess, sort of with cliffhangers, but also things get wrapped up in a bow a little bit.”
The new season picks up with the cadets in their second year aboard the USS Athena. Joining the series as guest stars are Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt as Nahla’s (Holly Hunter) estranged father Nyk Ake and Tarima’s (Zoë Steiner) mother and First Lady of Betazed Laytha Sadal, respectively.
Diané raves about having DeWitt on, noting, “One of my favorite shows of all time is Black Mirror.”

Rosta did work with her, given Caleb and Tarima’s relationship. “She’s so intuitively empathetic and just very down to earth and makes me feel uncomfortable in a really good way as an actor,” he shares. “She just sees through you. And she was playing a character that does do that, so it made a lot of sense.”
And with Nighy playing their captain and chancellor’s father, the cadets get to see a different side of her.
“I think it’s really jarring, at least for Genesis, because we see Nahla kind of turned upside down, being thrown back into, I guess, her old life,” teases Shepard. “And with the Lanthanites being thousands of years old, it’s a little bit like you can tell there’s a lot of history with her whole family.”
