What To Know

  • Luke Bryan’s son Bo, a football quarterback, was injured during a high school game over the weekend.
  • The 18-year-old confirmed what happened and gave an update after the game.
  • Bo’s future for the rest of the season is uncertain.

Country music star and American Idol judge Luke Bryan’s oldest son is facing a major hurdle on the gridiron.

Thomas Boyer Bryan, known to family and fans as “Bo,” suffered an injury on Friday night while playing quarterback for his high school football team. During the opening drive of a game against Pope John Paul II Preparatory School in Tennessee, the 18-year-old was sacked and landed hard on his right shoulder. He was forced to exit the game and was later spotted on the sidelines wearing a sling on his throwing arm.

After the game, Bo confirmed via an Instagram story that he broke his collarbone. “Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We will be back,” he wrote on the post.

Prior to the injury, the high school senior was having a breakout season as a starter, throwing for 2,006 yards, 30 touchdowns, and just three interceptions across seven games to lead Battle Ground Academy to a 6-1 record. Head coach Bobby Bentley acknowledged the heavy loss for the squad, saying that the team and coaching staff will have to rally and figure out their next moves.

Luke and his wife, Caroline Boyer Bryan, have been huge supporters of their son. Last month, Luke said he was “super impressed” watching his son navigate the pressures of stepping into the starting quarterback role for the first time.

“You see the hard work that he puts in and you just want the hard work to pay off,” Luke previously told USA Today High School Sports. “The main thing is to see his hard work and his commitment and his love for the game… I’m just so proud of him.”

Caroline shared a post on Instagram with her, Luke, and Bo in a sling.  The caption read: “Not the best day for Bo, or our family, but he’ll be back!!!! Dang collarbone…and of course Luke can’t take a serious picture!”

Caroline also shared a post of Bo in August where she was hugging her son during one of his games, with the caption, “Today was a good day…… not every day/game will always end like we hope but let’s soak this in today!!”

Bo also frequently shares photos of himself and Luke spending time together, partaking in activities such as hunting and fishing.

Along with Bo, Luke and Caroline share son Tate, as well as three nieces and nephews they took in and raised following the deaths of Luke’s sister and brother-in-law.
