What To Know

  • FBI Season 9 Episode 2 saw Jubal find out about OA’s undercover assignment.
  • Jeremy Sisto explains how his character feels about Isobel keeping him in the dark.

After the FBI Season 9 premiere, it felt like to us that Jubal (Jeremy Sisto) was realizing that Isobel (Alana De La Garza) wasn’t telling him something about where she was getting her information when she used intel from an undercover OA (Zeeko Zaki). Showrunner Mike Weiss confirmed to TV Insider that he would figure it out soon. He did in Episode 2.

Jubal “has multiple competing feelings” about being kept in the dark by Isobel, Sisto tells us. “I think he’s appreciative that she didn’t want him to have to walk the line with her and pay the consequences if there were going to be [any]. I think he feels bad that he went behind her back or didn’t trust her and followed her. I think he feels a little guilty about that, but he also understands that he did it because he was worried that she was in a situation that was really bad and that maybe she didn’t want to bring him in for some reason about helping him. And so he understands that — the choice he made to follow her and to install himself into this situation was not selfish. It was to see if he was needed.”

At the end of the second episode, Jubal followed Isobel when she met OA at the water tower. “Someone want to tell me what the hell’s going on?” he asked. OA has been undercover with Anna’s (Claire Coffee) shady strike team since the Season 8 finale, when he was fired just so he could take on that assignment. Isobel and Maggie (Missy Peregrym) are the only ones who knew from the start.

Sisto admits that “there was a little hurt” from Jubal, “of just wanting to be necessary, wanting to be the person that [Isobel] was like, despite everything, I cannot handle this without Jubal along for the ride. But ultimately, it’s a pretty well-structured understanding of the whole thing. And that’s the benefit of being someone like Jubal or having someone like Jubal on your team. It’s not going to come from a place of just hurt. That’s there, that’s a part of it, but there’s also a deeper understanding of how complicated things can be.”

This also speaks to Jubal not necessarily wanting to move up to her job. “I think to some degree that’s why he’s glad he’s in his job and she’s in hers. She has to make these really strange calls at times, and he’s not great with those,” Sisto tells TV Insider. “He’s always worried that he is going to fall off the wagon if things get too uncertain. So yeah, it’s been a fun thing to play because of all those competing feelings.”
