‘FBI’ & ‘CIA’ Boss Teases ‘Really Big’ Jubal & Nikki Crossover
Exclusive
With FBI and CIA part of the same universe and a Dick Wolf one at that, the question of crossovers will, of course, come up every season. Last year saw a few smaller ones, with characters going in between. This season even kicked off with a couple, with Necar Zadegan‘s Nikki on FBI and John Boyd‘s Scola on CIA.
So, how often will those happen? And what about a two-parter? TV Insider asked Mike Weiss, who serves as showrunner on both, just that.
“I mean, we’re trying to cross over wherever it makes sense. So Nikki is going to come in and consult on some other cases that make sense where it’s an international threat. She’s going to find herself showing up at 26 Fed occasionally or just helping Jubal [Jeremy Sisto] out with intelligence. Jubal and Ian Lim [James Chen] are going to find themselves working a little bit here and there, helping Bill out on CIA ops. We have a really big Jubal and Nikki episode that I can’t quite talk about yet, but where he’s going to be more involved in a CIA operation than any of these other smaller little crossover moments,” he revealed.

As for an event spanning across both shows in one night — FBI did do that with its since-canceled spinoffs, International and Most Wanted, in the past — there is the hope that there will be one.
“We’d love to do one. I would love to do a big, huge story that spans both shows, and it’s something that we’re definitely talking about. Does it happen this season? I’m not sure,” Weiss admitted.
Ahead of the season, CIA‘s Nick Gehlfuss told us, “You can always count on crossovers with this universe because we now are established with FBI as counterparts. And so we know fans love the crossovers and we’re going to deliver on that for sure.”
Tom Ellis enjoyed having FBI stars crossing over last year. “I think it was really good for our show actually. I think bringing something that’s already established in gives it immediate validity. And I love the idea that this one universe, these two things run parallel to each other in it. And I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be cross-pollinating and doing that because I acknowledge that it really gets our audiences excited as well,” he said. “So that’s what we want to do. We want to keep people entertained.”
Plus, it leads to some great interactions onscreen. “The kind of feelings that these agencies harbor about each other I think is a really fun dynamic to play as well,” added Ellis.
