Chandra Wilson Reveals How ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Cast Is Cheering on Harry Shum Jr.’s ‘DWTS’ Run
Chandra Wilson stopped by The View on Thursday (October 15) to promote the upcoming premiere of Grey’s Anatomy Season 23, introducing a clip of her character, Miranda Bailey, admitting that she was having second thoughts about pursuing her master’s degree in public health after missing a day of school due to work … plus, the zillion other responsibilities she has on her plate.
The series OG also talked about the value of representation that the character has given to viewers over the years, noting that she’s heard from some fans that their children went to medical school after seeing Bailey on the show, and she credited Shonda Rhimes with creating an inclusive series that’s reflective of a real-life hospital’s demographic makeup.
Wilson also played a game of “this or that” over key Grey’s Anatomy topics, choosing Seattle Grace over the hospital’s current title (Grey-Sloan Memorial), picking the elevators as a hotter hookup spot than the on-call rooms, and choosing “my person” as a better phrase than “pick me, choose me, love me.” (The one pair she wouldn’t choose between, of course, was Alex Karev or George O’Malley — “That’s like picking your favorite, those are my babies!” she exclaimed.)
During the discussion, Wilson was also asked if she and the other stars of Grey’s Anatomy have been keeping tabs on Harry Shum Jr.‘s competitive run on Dancing With the Stars and answered in the extreme affirmative.
“Have we been following along?!” she said. “We have a big screen up on set on Tuesdays so we can get ready to cheer him on and lead the text drive!”

She went on to explain, “We are so proud of him. I am so proud of him. But collectively, we’re like, ‘Harry, do it, do it! Represent!'”
