Kelly Ripa Shuts Down Kids Over Adopted Dog & Reveals Mark Consuelos’ Dating Secret

Kelly Ripa isn’t taking second opinions from her kids when it comes to naming her new dog.

Earlier this week, Ripa and Mark Consuelos announced they were adopting a Shih Tzu puppy named Lucas that appeared on the Monday, October 12, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark. While Consuelos suggested the name Javi, short for Javier, Ripa said the couple’s three kids are trying to share their own name options.

“We’re going through something at home that I’m curious… I need you guys to weigh in because now the kids have gotten involved,” Ripa said on the Wednesday, October 14, episode of Live. “Our children are adults. They do not live with us, so they have no vote. But they feel totally entitled to the name of our new dog.”

Ripa went on to explain that they named their late dog Chewie after Chewbacca from the Star Wars franchise because of her looks and because her name was originally Lola. Lola Consuelos is the middle child of the pair’s three kids, including sons Michael and Joaquin Consuelos.

“Then, when we adopted Lena, her name was Angelina after the woman on the Jersey Shore [Angelina Pivarnick]. And so, we just shortened it to Lena,” Ripa added, while Mark said he wanted to name the dog Leia to continue the Star Wars theme.

For their latest family addition, Ripa said she and Mark are only considering the names Lucas and Javi. “I’m certainly not going by the kids,” she quipped. “The kids were weighing in with all sorts of names last night, and I was like, ‘Stay out of it. You don’t live here.’”

The hosts had the audience vote for which name they preferred. Javi ultimately earned more cheers from attendees than Lucas. Live also launched a poll on the show’s official Instagram page.

Ripa and Mark moved on from the dog name debate by sharing some exciting show news. “We are thrilled to share that Live is hitting the road again! This time, we are headed to beautiful St. Pete-Clearwater, Florida, on the Gulf Coast.”

Mark described the location as his “old stomping ground,” to which Ripa joked, “This is very exciting. This is where Mark dated everyone. … So, if you’re going to be in the St. Pete-Clearwater area, and you dated Mark, on November 16 and 17, we’d love to see you in our audience.”

Ripa has her own happy memories of Clearwater Beach. “I know this beach well because when Mark took me home to meet his parents, that’s where he took me. Right there,” she gushed. “I mean, the water is stunning.”
