What To Know

  • Fox News’ latest power rankings predict that Democrats will take control of the House in the upcoming midterms.
  • The analysis cites shifting voter frustration with the economy and President Trump’s low approval rating.
  • Fox News anchor John Roberts discussed the projections on Tuesday’s Special Report.

For the first time this cycle, Fox News’ power rankings have predicted that the Republicans will lose control of the House of Representatives in the November midterm elections. John Roberts discussed the latest projections on Tuesday’s edition of Special Report.

Fox News contributor Rémy Numa published his power rankings analysis on Tuesday (October 13), predicting the Democrats will win 219 House seats to the Republicans’ 198, with 18 races too close to call. Numa’s predictions also shifted 20 House races in Democrats’ favor, citing frustration with the economy, particularly among rural voters.

“The House is likely out of reach for the GOP this year,” Numa wrote. “The Democratic Party has enjoyed a lead in the House all year. Now, as another 20 races shift leftward, this forecast sees the Democrats taking control.”

The Senate battle is much tighter, according to Numa’s projections, with Democrats and Republicans each expected to win 47 seats. The results of races in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, and Texas will likely decide which party controls the Senate.

John Roberts discussed the latest projections on Tuesday’s edition of Special Report. “The latest Fox News power rankings predict that Democrats will take control of the House,” Roberts said, per Mediaite. “It is the first such forecast this cycle.”

He added, “Key factors include President Trump’s low approval rating and the Democratic lead on the generic ballot.” As of last week, Trump’s approval rating sank to 30 percent, according to a Pew Research Center poll of 5,062 randomly selected American adults.

Fox News has been more critical of Trump in recent months, which has frustrated the president. Back in April, Trump called out various pollsters, including Fox News, in a scathing Truth Social rant.

“These people should be investigated for ELECTION FRAUD, and add in the FoxNews Pollster while you’re at it,” the president wrote. “They are Negative Criminals who apologize to their subscribers and readers after I WIN ELECTIONS BIG, much bigger than their polls showed I would win, loose [sic] a lot of credibility, and then go on cheating and lying for the next cycle, only worse.”

Trump also criticized the network for firing Maria Bartiromo last month and for continuing to employ The Five‘s liberal cohost Jessica Tarlov.
