See Dramatic Video of Kelly Clarkson’s Visit to Store She Slammed on Social Media

The drama between Kelly Clarkson and the Brooklyn-based store Art of Play continues after former ESPN host Pablo Torre released security footage of the now-viral incident.

For context, the drama began on Saturday (October 10) after the American Idol winner claimed the store owner treated her disrespectfully. Clarkson said she felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman after she inquired about purchasing a $15,000 bird automaton and was “looked at as if I couldn’t afford it” and was offered “something comparable.”

“Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale,” she wrote on X. “But y’all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out.”

Art of Play responded to Clarkson’s claims on social media, saying the item in question wasn’t for sale and that they offered to show her “a different singing bird automaton,” but she “did not stick around long enough to see it.”

Torre shared security video footage from the store on the latest episode of his Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast. In the 4-minute, 50-second clip, which has no audio, Clarkson is seen in the store looking at various items. At one point, she picks up what appears to be a kaleidoscope and holds it to her eye.

She then moves further into the store and stops by the bird automaton mounted to the wall. Clarkson talks to an employee, whom Torre identifies as one of the store owners, and points at the wall. The conversation is brief, and afterward Clarkson walks to another part of the store while the store owner seems to try to direct her attention to a different product.

The Voice coach doesn’t seem to notice the store owner and instead returns other items she was holding back to the shelves. The owner then begins talking with another customer while Clarkson heads out of the store. Before she leaves, the singer seems to become animated as she shares words with a man working at the cash register.

Torre also shared footage taken outside the store moments later, showing Clarkson taking out her phone. Just fifteen minutes later, Clarkson would post her X statement blasting the store.

The drama has ignited a back-and-forth online, with some people siding with Clarkson and others defending the store. This new footage will only add fuel to the fire.

“I get that you want people to side with the store but this footage pretty much corroborates everything that she said,” wrote one X user.

“If… if some staff really told me I cannot afford an item that I enquire, I will be offended too. I will also post my displeasure online. That is, if this shopkeeper really did say that to her, but we will never know,” said another.

“Without the sound I’m still on Kelly’s side it does look like he said something bad to her in the initial conversation,” another added.

Another wrote, “You can see how she immediately drops everything she wanted to buy and the look of shock in her face.”

“If anything the video backs her side of the story. She was clearly annoyed by something he was saying, which caused her to then put the other items back on the shelf and leave,” said one commenter.
