‘The View’ Hosts Weigh in on Kelly Clarkson’s Musical Bird Feud

Some of The View hosts were just as engrossed with Kelly Clarkson‘s escalating feud with a Brooklyn novelty shop as the rest of the internet this weekend.

On Monday’s (October 12) live show, it was the second “Hot Topic” discussion of the day (following a breakdown of what the cohosts called a “desperate” MAGA conspiracy theory about James Talarico’s recent absence from the campaign trail due to the flu).

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg introduced the topic by explaining the surprisingly intense back-and-forth that has commenced between Clarkson and the store: “It started when Clarkson claimed the store employee who didn’t recognize her insinuated she couldn’t afford an animated bird that she was interested in. But the store posted a response claiming that the bird she asked about wasn’t actually for sale. Then Clarkson hit back with a photo of a $15,000 price tag on the bird, posting that, ‘He’s not only rude’ — not the bird, the guy— ‘but also a liar.’ Then the store said, ‘Listen, we reached out to Kelly directly to try to clear this up.'” Her question for the cohosts was then, “So should all this be playing out on social media?”

“I want to see a picture of this $15,000 bird,” Alyssa Farah Griffin exclaimed in jest.

Sara Haines was similarly sticker shocked, saying, “It better clean my damn house if it’s going to be [that price]!” Haines then defended Clarkson for taking her dispute onto social media, noting that “she’s not someone who comes to the press a lot.” However, she did question the intent, adding, “I think when you go nuclear and put it on social media, you’re no longer looking for a solution…. it just becomes a tit for tat fight that just ends up being negative.”

Griffin then admitted, “I was locked in on this. My husband was watching the Patriots, and I was like, ‘I’m watching Kelly Clarkson and this automated bird or whatever.” She then empathized with Clarkson, noting, “I’ve been in a situation once where someone was so rude to me and my family at a restaurant. I think about it like once a year. It still bothers me. I get the initial wanting to be like, ‘This just wasn’t right.'” However, she concluded that the back and forth of it was “reductive.”

Ana Navarro then weighed in to note that she’s resisted the urge to tweet about her own frustrations in life, saying, “When my planes get delayed, when my planes get canceled, when I’m stuck at the airport, sometimes I want to rage tweet. Then, I remember all the people who live off the airline and are employed and how silly it looks.” She then said someone like Clarkson, who “has millions and millions and millions more [followers] than I do, you have to be careful because it’s an uneven wielding of power.”

Sunny Hostin was the next to speak up and said the incident isn’t “a reflection” of either party’s character but concluded, “I think it was a misunderstanding, and I hope Kelly gets that bird.”

Haines then predicted, “They’re definitely not selling it now.”

Goldberg then concluded the subject by issuing a message to both Clarkson and the store, saying, “There are reasons, I’m sure. People had a bad day and maybe misheard, misunderstood, maybe misspoke. Who knows? But it’s done. It’s done.”
