Bill Maher Under Fire After Revealing He Accepted Trump Dinner Invitation

Real Time host Bill Maher has been branded a “disgusting excuse of a human being” after accepting a second dinner invitation from President Donald Trump.

Maher revealed the news on the latest episode of his Club Random podcast, where he spoke with Hollywood agent and TKO chairman Ari Emanuel. “I’m having dinner with [Trump] again next week,” he said. “After the first dinner, I went back to doing what I do… But then, like, he just, out of the blue, ‘let’s have dinner again.'”

The comedian said Trump promised him, “‘I won’t say bad things about you like I did the last time.'” Maher texted the president back and said, “‘You know what, you’re the president of the United States, say whatever the f*** you want. I’m just glad we’re talking.'”

“It’s like being called a ‘hockey puck’ by Don Rickles. It’s just what he does. It’s how he talks,” he added.

Emanuel, who once represented Trump when he hosted The Apprentice, said he’d spoken with the president that Monday. It’s unclear when the podcast episode was recorded or whether Maher’s dinner with Trump has already happened or is happening this week.

“It blows my mind that there are people in this world, and lots of them on the far left, who just would turn this opportunity down, a private dinner in the White House with the president, just a few people, say whatever you want,” Maher continued. “I’ve heard people say, ‘Well, I don’t like the war.’ Tell him! You can tell them, and I will.”

Maher previously attended a private dinner with Trump at the White House on March 31, 2025, which led to public backlash. One of his biggest critics was comedian Larry David, whom Emanuel represents. At the time, David penned a satirical New York Times article comparing Maher’s meeting with Trump to having dinner with Hitler.

“It’s so interesting to me that Larry David, like, I’m the devil because I talk to [Trump], but his own agent just talked to him on Monday,” Maher said with a laugh. “You must recognize the hypocrisy there. Somehow, when it’s his own agent doing the exact same thing… then we don’t play the Hitler card.”

He added, “That’s what I hate about the ‘purist left’… purity, it’s the easiest thing to be. And by the way, you know you’re not a political sophisticate when you immediately go to the Hitler card.”

Maher’s announcement of his second dinner with Trump drew backlash similar to the first. One Yahoo commenter referred to him as “a disgusting excuse of a human being,” while another wrote, “Dude shredded his reputation when he attended that first dinner.”

One Reddit user added, “He bragging like it’s a second date.”

“The fact that Bill texts with this Presidential Clown and is going back for another dinner is something I just don’t understand. You’re either ok with evil or you stay away from evil. But whatever, it’s Bill’s choice,” said another.

Another added, “Wonderful. Just when he was starting to stop talking about it every episode we get to start all over again.”

“Bill has lost his independence of thought, the thing he cherished the most. Sad. He is thrashing about trying to touch relevance again, but I think he’s knows it’s gone forever,” said another Yahoo commenter.

“Donnie Dementia Diapers wants to give Maher instructions for the final Nov election push,” wrote one Reddit user.

“Larry David is hilarious, Bill Maher, not so much. I thought Larry’s op-ed was spot on AND hilarious,” said another.

One fan tried to see a positive, writing, “It’s better to have at least some non-crazy people talking to Trump than only the crazies talking to him.”
